Wayne Preyan

Wayne entered into eternal rest July 11, 2024 while vacationing with his family in Orange Beach, Alabama. Although Wayne’s unexpected departure was tragic to witness, comfort is found in the fact that we know for sure he is now in the presence of the Lord. Wayne entered into this world January 16, 1956 through the union of the late Gladys Mitchell Preyan and Joseph Preyan, Jr. He was baptized, communized, and confirmed at Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Church in New Orleans, where he remained an active member until he was called home. Wayne was educated in the New Orleans Public School System where he attended Paul Lawrence Dunbar, Samuel J. Green and Alice C. Fortier (1974) schools. Wayne worked as a licensed and insured electrician. He proudly owned and operated his business, Brite Lite Electrical Services, LLC., for many years with great integrity. Wayne had an active social life in and outside of the church. Wayne was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus, Knights of Peter Claver (as Deputy Grand Knight), St. Joan of Arc Usher Society (as Vice President), and The Young Men Illinois Club Incorporated (with terms as President and Sergeant at Arms). Wayne was preceded in death by his loving parents, Gladys and Joseph, Jr; grandparents Ida Bazile Preyan and Joseph Preyan, Sr.; Nancy Scott Mitchell and Thomas Mitchell, Sr.; Mother-in-law, Lena Mae Ferchaud Smith; Father-in-law, Stafford Smith Sr. his brother, Joseph Kenneth Preyan “Kenny Boy” and his brother-in-laws, Stafford Smith, Sr. “Boboy” and Lee G Rabb. Wayne will be truly missed by many. He leaves to cherish his memories the love of his life and wife of 46 years, Sheila Faye Smith Preyan; three children; Dr. Wayne Mitchell Preyan, Jr., Pharm D. (Shirley), Lynesia Marie Preyan-Raymond (Atari), and Dr. Lynez Cecilia Preyan, Pharm D; five grandchildren; Atari Levar Raymond, Jr., Alysia Faye Raymond, Allison Cecilia Raymond, Wade Allen Preyan, and Everly Faye Preyan; his siblings, Calvin Anthony Preyan (Debbie); Janice Preyan Rabb (late Lee G), sister-in-laws; Sylvia Jackson, Janet Williams (Gene), and Mary Lewis Preyan; uncle Harold Preyan (Lillie Mae); nieces, Germaine Monroe Tony (Mandrell), Jorina Preyan Hill (Pierre), Tara Preyan Thomas (Curtis), Chanel Preyan, Jonise Shanks, Jenae Williams; nephews, Jermaine Anthony Preyan,Calvin Anthony Preyan II, Jr (Tina), Stafford Smith III, Christopher Smith, and Hardy Gene Williams; Godchildren, Brandon Spears, JeNae Williams, Torino Sparrow and Marikiya Green Wolf. A mass of Christian burial honoring the life and legacy of the late Wayne Mitchell Preyan, Sr. will be held at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 8321 Burthe Street, New Orleans, LA 70118 on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 11:00AM, Father Charles Andrus, S.S.J., Celebrant.
