Tony Jerome Mitchell

On Friday, August 26, 2016, Tony Jerome Mitchell, age 45, began his eternal life with Christ leaving this earthly world behind to receive perfect peace with God, his Father. Tony Jerome Mitchell was born September 24, 1970 to the late Iona Williams Mitchell. He is the grandson of the late Ernest Williams and Elizabeth Brooks Williams, and nephew to Inez Smith. Beloved husband to Jazmine Nicholle Mitchell, devoted father of Alayna Elizabeth Marie Mitchell and Adrian Tony Jerome Mitchell, he is also survived by cousins, Simone Yancy, Jacqueline Hudson Gettridge, Isaac Curtis, Joseph Raby III, who was like a brother and a host of many other cousins, family and friends. A native of New Orleans and raised in Hollygrove, Tony attended Warren Easton High School, Class of 1988. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Grambling University, Class of 1993, where he also played football under the late, legendary Eddie Robinson. On the field, Tony was known by Tee-Bo #28. Tony proudly served the community as a New Orleans police officer. He joined the department in 1997 where he worked in the 2nd District Task Force. He also worked as a detective for the Auto Theft Task Force, Special Operations Division Tactical (S.O.D.) and most recently assigned to the 8th District, where he was one of the first to work the French Quarter Task Force. Tony was raised in Nazareth Baptist Church, but made Household of Faith Family Worship Church in Harvey, LA his home of worship. Tony enjoyed watching football, family barbeques, vacations and making his babies smile. Anyone who knew Tony, knew he was a very hard worker, and his first priority was to provide for his family. Tony was a man willing to help. No matter the day or time, he would be there. Tony will be sadly missed by all who loved him. Relatives, friends of the family, and fellow law enforcement officers are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Household of Faith Family Worship Church, 2074 Paxton Street on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 10:00 am. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until the hour of service. Interment: Garden of Memories Cemetery.
