Robert Garrett

"I have glorified thee on the earth. I finished the work, which thou hast gavest me to do." John 17:4 Robert David Garrett was born on May 18, 1939, in Mossville, Louisiana to the late Berkeley Crawford Garrett and Marjorie Emma Young Garrett. Robert was one of five children. Robert entered into eternal rest on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the age of eighty-seven. Robert was the father of three sons Michael C. Garrett, Rychon D. Garrett, and Omar L. Garrett with their mother Alice M. Garrett. Robert and Alice met on the campus of Southern University in Baton Rouge. They were married in 1963 and were both Teachers. Robert graduated from Mossville High School (Class of 1959) and continued his education earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Southern University in New Orleans. He was an athlete in high school playing Tennis also was a Lifeguard, played the Saxophone and played Football. He loved watching sports whenever he could. Robert was a committed teacher and a member of the church community. He became one of the teachers to benefit from integration of several schools in the Orleans Parish School System during the time when black teachers were not accepted nor highly respected. While teaching at several Elementary schools, Robert was committed to using his training and love for his profession to provide students with the tools necessary to become productive citizens. Robert retired after dedicating years of service to his students, faculty and the staff of the schools he taught as well as Orleans Parish School System. Robert accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. Robert loved the Lord and he knew that the Lord loved him. Robert was a faithful member of Old Pathway Baptist Church for many years. Robert loved and respected his church and church family and was a loyal member of the church. On Saturday, June 13, 2026, God whispered, "It's time to come home now... the battle has been won! Servant of God well done, rest from thy love employ, the battle is fought, the victory is won, enter thy master's joy." Robert will be greatly missed but never forgotten. Robert was preceded in death by his parents: Berkeley Crawford Garrett and Marjorie Emma Young Garrett; his sons: Rychon Davel Garrett and Omar Lydell Garrett; sister: Constance Ann Garrett Harden; brother: Jerrell MacArthur Garrett; daughter-in-law: Anjanlyn V. Garrett; brother-in laws: Cleo Jackson, William McKinley, Jr. and Thomas Jackson; sisters-in-law: Rosie Jackson Johnson, Mary Jackson Lynum, Lilly Jackson Green, Murriel Jackson Barber, and Lubertha Jackson; He leaves loving memories for his sons: Michael C. Garrett (the late Anjanlyn), the late Rychon D. Garrett (La’Charlotte’), and the late Omar L. Garrett (Gwendell); beloved sisters: Gail Louise Garrett and Dr. Wanda Faye Garrett-Griggs (Roderick); eight grandchildren: Micha, Michael II, Matthew, Sterling, Ryla, Rychon Jr.(RJ), Gianna, and Ry’Ann; sisters-in-law: Rosetta Jackson and Jonell Jackson Scurlock (Gerald). Also survived by his cousin Jeffrey Keith Williams; Nieces: Ashley Danielle Griggs and Lauren Alexandra Griggs. As well as a host of Godchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
