Monroe H. Hoskins Jr.

Monroe H. Hoskins, Jr. was born on Tuesday, November 2, 1942 to the late Monroe H. Hoskins, Sr. and Lela Mae Morris Hoskins in Belzoni, Mississippi. Monroe was baptized at an early age at Andrew Chapel Baptist Church in Caton, Mississippi. He was raised in Canton, Mississippi and later during his teenage years moved to New Orleans, LA. Monroe lived in Uptown, “Black Peal” New Orleans, where he was well-known and loved for many years. Monroe worked many years as a construction worker for Landis Construction Company, Glazer Steel Construction Company, and Bohn Bros Construction. He began his entrepreneurial odyssey when he opened Monroe’s Mechanic Shop in New Orleans, LA. He ventured into the bar business where he owned and operated Tamika’s Lounge and The White Horse Arcade both located on Tulane Avenue in Mid-City, New Orleans, LA. He was a hardworking entrepreneur and loved being a self-employed businessman who called all the shots. Monroe loved fishing, racing his white 1968 Chevelle, watching sports, eating, drinking, and playing cards. He was a loving, thoughtful, and kindhearted person. Later in life, Monroe began to suffer with his illnesses as he truly fought for years. He was a devoted and loving husband and father to all his children. He lived his life to the fullest. In his later years, we enjoyed watching The Discovery Chanel and never missed a Saints Football Sunday. Monroe will be remembered for his life’s many roles as Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Great-Uncle, Provider, Mentor, Life Coach, and Friend. Monroe leaves precious memories to: His Devoted Children Monroe H. Hoskins III, Tamika Hoskins-Stewart, Angela Walker-Jefferson, Nicole Walker, Maurice Williams, Devin Williams, Joi Williams, Johnathan Williams, Jalen Williams, and the late Lori Ann Tate-Williams and Kevin Hoskins; Godchild: Nureka Chapman; Siblings: Jessie Hoskins-Turner, Rocky “Doc” Hoskins, Otha Hoskins, Roy Allen, Billy Hoskins, late Charles Hoskins, Preston Allen, Dean Hoskins, and Ruthy “Babygirl” Allen-VanBuren; wife Andrea Bartholomew Hoskins; his devoted and loving companion: Lisa Williams; and host of many aunts and uncles, cousins, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Private funeral Services honoring Monroe Hoskins, Jr. is limited to attendees and can be streamed via Facebook at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church NOLA or YouTube at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church NOLA.
