Lorraine Bailey Brown

Lorraine Juanita Bailey Brown, passed away peacefully in the early morning of Sunday, February 3, 2013 at the age of 92. Lorraine was born August 30, 1920, in New Orleans, LA, and was the last remaining of 14 children to late James Andrew Bailey, Sr. and Adele Croom Bailey. She was also preceded in death by husband, Paul J. Houston. Sr. (1st husband to whom she had 3 sons) and 2ndhusband, James N. Brown; and a son, Philip A. “Tony” Houston, Sr. Surviving to cherish her memory are sons, Paul J. (Blondell) Houston, Jr. of Daleville, VA and Steven A. (Anita) Houston of Vicksburg, MS; seven grandchildren, Tiffany (Alwin) Dockins of Jackson, MS, Philip A. (Rima) Houston, Jr. of New Orleans, LA, Candice Lorraine Houston of Jackson, MS, Paul J. Houston, III of Roanoke, VA, Malena (Johnny) Woods of Daleville, VA, India (Joey) Stockton of Roanoke, VA, and Scott Bailey Houston of Atlanta, GA; fifteen great-grandchildren; very special Hickerson/Pete Family nieces and nephews, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Her beautiful smile, energetic and lively spirit will be remembered by anyone whose path she crossed. Lorraine was a longtime resident of New Orleans, LA, before moving to Roanoke, VA in 1990. She enjoyed a career teaching in the Orleans Parish School District before retiring from the Louisiana school system in 1982. She was a devout Catholic and member of Saint Gerard’s Catholic Church in Roanoke, VA and former member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in New Orleans, Louisiana. Lorraine’s children and grandchildren remember many wonderful things about her. She was a beautiful woman who appreciated life, nature, and all its beauty. She loved flowers and gardening, was known for her delicious New Orleans cooking, and was an excellent seamstress. On Sat., February 23rd, 2013, visitation will be held at 9am with Funeral Mass at 10am at St. Katharine Drexel (formerly Holy Ghost), 2015 Louisiana Ave., New Orleans, LA. The burial will take place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 4000 Norman Mayer Ave., New Orleans, LA. Flowers may be delivered directly to the church for the services.
