Linconia Florence Smith Brooks

Linconia Florence Smith Brooks born to Ira and Albert Smith on December 24, 1926, entered into eternal rest on August 8, 2024, at the age of 97. Known by many as Florence or “Mother.” “Mother” was a native of Algiers, La, and a resident of Gretna, La (McDonoghville). She accepted Christ at an early age and was a lifetime member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Algiers, La. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Ira and Albert Smith, husband Roy Brooks, Sr., son Tyrone Brooks, and siblings: Ulysses, Ruby Smith Taylor, Oliver, Clorenza Smith Miles, Arthur, Alvin, Albert Jr., Mildred Smith and Ira Mae Smith Medice. She is survived by her children, Melba (James) Lee, Roy Brooks Jr. and Ira Melita Brooks. Her sisters Dolores Smith Coleman, Rosalie Smith Raheem. She also leaves to cherish her loving memories, 16 Grandchildren, 35 Great Grandchildren, and 8 Great - Great Grandchildren, several loving nieces and nephews. Florence was a Class of 1945 L.B. Landry High School graduate. She was employed by Orleans Parish School Board at McDonogh #32 School until her retirement in 1996. Florence was an active member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter #17 since the 1970’s. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, gardening, beautiful flowers, and Reading Life Study Fellowship daily. She also enjoyed reminiscing about growing up in “Oakdale” Joe Simon and making people laugh. Her beautiful spirit has enlightened her kindness, humility and Godliness. One of the nicest people you’d ever meet, she welcomed everyone who walked through her door with kindness and affection. She lived for family and friends as an excellent and dependable caregiver. She was and will always be loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure. Pastors, officers, and members of St. Matthew / Asbury United Methodist Church, Regular Baptist Church, and Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church, family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service for Linconia Florence Smith Brooks, on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 2725 Ernest Street, New Orleans, La 70131, with viewing beginning at 9:00 am and service at 10:00 am.
