Katherine Amanda Harris Lang

Katherine Amanda Harris Lang was born on December 18, 1949, in Saint Francisville, Louisiana, to the late Louis Rowan and Sarah Harris. As a child, she moved with her family to New Orleans, Louisiana, which became her lifelong home. On Monday, March 16, 2026, in the early morning hours, our angel was granted her wings. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Katherine confessed Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at Second Zion Baptist Church No. 2 by the late Reverend Dangerfield. She later became a devoted member of James Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, where she continued to grow in her faith and served faithfully as an usher. She received her formal education through the New Orleans Public School System and graduated from Booker T. Washington Senior High School, where she remained an active alumna. Katherine dedicated many years of service as a Nurse’s Aide at Hotel Dieu Hospital. Katherine, affectionately known as Amanda, was the beloved wife of the late Sylvester “Gene” Lang. Though she had no children of her own, she lovingly embraced her nieces and nephews as her own and was a proud godmother to her niece, Katrina Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester “Gene” Lang; her parents, Louis Rowan and Sarah Harris; five sisters, Mary J. Argue, Gladys Valdary, Ora Ruth Brown, Bertha Anthony and her twin sister, Kathleen Anne Lusk; and two brothers, Roosevelt T. Harris and Samuel L. Brown. She leaves to cherish her memory one sister, Nellie Bazile; one brother, Theodore R. Brown; two sisters-in-law, Sarah Harris and Brenda Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other relatives, family, and friends. Amanda was a woman who truly loved life. She had a deep bond with her family, especially her twin sister Kathleen Anne, and was always present at family gatherings and celebrations. She enjoyed sewing and making her own clothes as a teenager, took pride in dressing well, and loved to travel to places such as Jamaica and the Bahamas. She had a passion for music, dancing, good food, and laughter. With her outgoing and vibrant personality, there was never a dull moment when she was around. Her warmth, love, and joyful spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Monday, March 30, 2026 at James Chapel Baptist Church, 4228 Thalia St. New Orleans, LA 70125 at 10:00am.
