Joseph E. Simon, Jr. entered eternal life on May 14, 2026, at the age of 87. Born in New Orleans, LA on February 11, 1939, to Joseph E. (Joe Bosce) Simon and Marguerite B. Simon, he was the beloved husband of Muriel Simon; devoted father of JoAnn Simon-Martin, Joseph E. Simon, III, Denise Simon Hayes, Sean Joseph Simon, and Marc A. Simon, Sr.; and stepfather of Steven Morris. He was the proud grandfather of Jade E. Simon, Joseph E. Simon, IV, Chad M. Simon, Armand J. Simon-Martin, Megan A. Haynes, Erin R. Haynes, Paige Simon, Kamryn Simon, Chase Simon, Eric Simon, Markeina Simon, Marc Simon, Jr., and Chapelle Simon; and great-grandfather of Landon K. Simon and Naomi R. Simon. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law Earl Harden, James Chapman, Jacqueline Minor, Brenda Brownlee, Sylvia Ellis, and Claire Brown; niece Lisa King; godson, Curt Brown, along with a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Joseph was preceded in death by his father, mother, brother Arthur J. Carr, and sister Evelyn Moore, as well as his nieces, Gloria Cunequin and Pamela Carr, and nephew Michael Carr. Mr. Simon was a lifelong resident of New Orleans, LA. He attended Joseph S. Clark High School. He dedicated more than 50 years of service to law enforcement, beginning his career in 1962 with the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office, the New Orleans Police Department, and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. On March 3, 1971, he joined the Unites States Marshals Service, the Witness Protection Division, where he served for 20 years, and he retired June 30, 1995. Following his retirement, he continued his public service with the Louisiana Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal in court security, where he concluded his career. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Crescent City Lodge No. 2. Relatives and friends of the family; priests and parishioners of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, The City of Love Full Gospel Baptist Church, Judges and members of the Louisiana Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal, members of the United States Marshals Service, the Louisiana Supreme Court, Circle “C” Riding Club, West Bank Riding Club, Buffalo Soldiers, 504 Boys and Girls Dyn-O-Mite Riders, and other riding clubs are invited to attend the Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, 1923 St. Phillip Street, New Orleans, on Friday, May 29, 2026.
