In Loving Memory of Joseph Costa Jr. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Costa Jr., who entered eternal rest peacefully in his sleep from natural causes on July 12, 2026. Born in Philadelphia, Joe lived a life that was anything but ordinary. As a teenager, he earned recognition as a Golden Gloves boxer, displaying the determination, grit, and fearless spirit that would define him throughout his life. In his twenties, Joe pursued his entrepreneurial drive by owning and operating several pizza shops. His passion for people and creativity eventually led him to New Orleans, where he established and operated the world-famous Forbidden Art Tattoo Parlor for thirty years. Through his artistry, mentorship, and larger-than-life personality, he left a lasting mark not only on the tattoo community, but on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Above all else, Joe was devoted to his family. He had a tough exterior, but those who knew him best understood the loyalty and love that existed beneath it. He loved deeply, laughed loudly, and brought an unforgettable energy into every room he entered. He is survived by his loving wife, Rain; his children, Heather, Nicole, Frankie, Jolie, Calvin, and Robert King. We are especially grateful for the time he had with his cherished grandchildren, Harrison, Isabella, Elizabeth, Anthony, and Mikey King; and his devoted siblings, John Costa and Catherine Davis. He also leaves behind countless extended family members, friends, clients, and all those whose lives were enriched by his limitless generosity, singular wisdom, and authentic perspective. One of his favorite sayings was: “I taught you everything you know, not everything I know.” Those words reflected both his confidence and his playful nature with his children and continue to bring a smile to his loved ones. He will be remembered for his courageous spirit, endless enthusiasm, and the wisdom he shared. His immediate family will gather on August 2 to reflect on his remarkable life and the iconoclastic force that will forever reverberate in their hearts, while honoring his request to have his ashes released into the ocean. An informal celebration of Joe’s life for his many friends will be held at his home in the Holy Cross neighborhood, details to be announced. Though his presence will be deeply missed, his strength, creativity, laughter, and love will live on through his family and in the countless lives he touched. Rest easy, Joe. Your fight is over, but your legacy lives on forever.
