Johnell Wade Sr.

Johnell Wade, Sr. unexpectedly transitioned to his heavenly home on Tuesday, June 18, 2024. Beloved Father of Johnell Wade, Jr. (Tanya), Joan M. Wade, Nadia Wade Gill, and Julius L. Wade. Johnell Wade, Sr. was born to Elizabeth and John Boyd Wade in New Orleans, Louisiana in February of 1951. He was reared in the 3rd ward of New Orleans on Erato Street but also had an upbringing in the 7th ward on Annette Street. He attended Orleans Parish Public Schools where he concluded his education at Booker T. Washington High School until he entered into a progressive training program that offered various career opportunities which he chose to become a Seaman. Johnell was employed as a Merchant Mariner where he traveled overseas and assisted with the transportation of goods and merchandise during the Vietnam War which was essential to the United States Military. He traveled to England, Holland, Hong Kong, India, Paris, France and Zeebrugge, Belgium. The Ivory Coast of Africa, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Angola. He also made various stops in all major port cities of the United States. His travels were extensive and his contributions on sea were grand. Johnell Wade, Sr. loved the Lord. He would often attend mass or visit the altar at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and International Shrine of St. Jude in New Orleans. Mr. Wade lived out his final days as a resident of Avondale, Louisiana after engaging in a life of travels around the world. He will be greatly missed but as 2 Corinthians 5:8 KJV reads, we are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. He leaves to cherish his memories are his children Johnell Wade, Jr. (Tanya), Joan Marie Wade, Nadia Wade Gill and Julius L. Wade. Granddaughters, Jonnasia Wade and Jonae Butler. Great Grandson, Legend Butler. Former wives, Fabiola Franklin and Betty Wade. Sisters, Velda Wade, Jacqueline W. Chandler(Johnny), Michelle W. Hall (Richard) and devoted Niece, Dina Wade Collins. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth and John Wade. Brother, Ebbie (Sonny) Cummings, Jr., Nephew, Terrance Carruth and Godson, Jerard Franklin. Relatives, friends of the family also Pastors, Officers, and members of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Abundant Life Tabernacle, Beacon Light Baptist Cathedral, Ora Vista Baptist Church, St. Mark's Fourth Baptist Church and The Asia Baptist Church. In addition to Delgado Community College River City Site, Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Louisiana, HAWK eyes hotel group, Pyramid Global Hospitality, and Waste Connections are invited to attend a memorial Service at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, 1401 Simon Bolivar Blvd. New Orleans, LA. on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.
