Janice C Ellis

Janice C. Ellis, native of Darrow, LA and resident of New Orleans, LA, peacefully transitioned this life for her Eternal life with her heavenly father on Monday, November 7, 2022. She was born on August 8, 1953, to the union of James, Sr. and Stella Mae Carter of Hillaryville, LA, the youngest of three children. Janice was reared in a Christen home, where she was taught that God was first and above all, she soon realized through prayer that God was the center of her life at an early age and was baptized at Hopeful Baptist Church, Hillaryville, LA under the leadership of the late Reverend Clarence Pedescleaux. Upon moving to New Orleans for a career opportunity, she transition her membership from Hopeful Baptist Church to Greater St. Stephen FGBC in New Orleans, LA under the leadership of Bishop Paul Martin, where she faithfully served until Hurricane Katrina. After Katrina, she relocated to Katy, Texas. Being a faithful child of God, to continue her walk with him, joining the Church Without Walls under the leadership of Pastor Ralph Douglas West, where she worshipped her heavenly father while exemplifying the spirit of a true woman of God serving in the Greeters and New Members Ministries. Upon her return to New Orleans, she returned to her home church, Greater St. Stephen FGBC continuing her service as a devoted and vibrant member. Janice was educated under the Ascension Parish School Systems and graduated from East Ascension High School, Gonzales LA in 1971. She then attended and received her Bachelor’s degree from Southern University, Baton Rouge LA. After which she continued her education and received her Master’s from Louisiana State University in the Art of Education. She fully utilized her educational skills and talents working in the Orleans Parish School System developing and pushing students to their full potential for success until her retirement. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, caring and spending time with her grand and great-grandchildren. Janice leaves to carry on her legacy: one Daughter Katina L. Ellis, of New Orleans, LA; three bonus children William Ellis, Jr, Yolanda Robinson, Racquelle Harris all of New Orleans, LA; three grandchildren Anthony, Jr, Christina and Blake Falls; seven great-grandchildren: Destin, Kylie, Charlie Phlay, Janiyah, A’Marie, Chandler Grace and Brooks Falls; one god-child Lesa Dennis of Gonzales, LA; two god-brothers Stanley Williams of Darrow, LA, Jarvon Anderson of Gonzales, LA; one aunt Lois Harvey (Lionel) of Gonzales, LA; one uncle Leroy Castle of Baton Rouge, LA and one great aunt, Minnie Gilyard Caster, a close friend Dorothy Earl of Gonzales, LA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Janice was preceded in death by her soul mate, her husband, William “Bill” Ellis Sr; parents, James Sr. and Stella Mae Carter; sister, Albertha Dennis; brother, James Carter Jr.; one nephew, Toril Carter; one niece, Veronica Smith; mother and father-in-law Earl Sr and Jesse Ellis. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away. Revelation 21:4 Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a funeral service at Greater St. Stephen Full Gospel Baptist Church, 5600 Read Blvd. on Friday, November 18, 2022 at 10:00 am.
