Godwin Chukwuma Ogbuokiri

Dr. Godwin Chukwuma Ogbuokiri (fondly called Chief Omenka) was called home to Heaven on Thursday, September 15, 2022, on the feast day of our Lady of Sorrows, after a brief illness at 83 years of age. Beloved husband of Justina Enuma (Nee Ezie) Ogbuokiri, proud father of Uchenna Ogbuokiri, Obianuju Ogbuokiri, Kelechi (Christopher) Loynd, Ginika (Okey) Onyeama and Chukwuemeka Ogbuokiri; doting Grandpa "Chief "of Adaeze, Alan, Alexander and Amara Loynd; Ogechi and Chiderah Ogbuokiri; Immamachi, Kobimtochi and Chidirim Onyeama; loyal brother of Sabina (Theophilus) Chimezie, Benedict (Eddie) Okorie, Onyinye (Fortunatus) Dike, Iheanyi (Chinwe) Ogbuokiri and sisters Theresa (Paulinus) Anyiam, Bridget Ogbuokiri, Vicky (Cypril) Ihejiahi, Beatrice (Joseph) Ezeonyia who preceded him in death; and special uncle , cousin and friend to so many. Godwin was born on April 19, 1939, in Aba, Abia State Nigeria, to the late Stephen and Janet (Nee Egbunine) Ogbuokiri. He was proud of his Ezeka Umunze roots and always carried his heritage proudly as he navigated sharing his lifetime in both the American and African continents. Godwin will be forever missed by his wife of 52 years , Justina and their loving children Uchenna, Obianuju, Kelechi, Ginika and Chukwuemeka. Godwin was an esteemed physician with almost 60 years of patient care, a profession he enjoyed so much that he did not ever retire from this passionate work. Godwin’s longterm practices were at Majane Hospital, Aba and up until his home going practiced at Downman Urgent Clinic, New Orleans, LA. Godwin is remembered for his faith, love and service of others. He consistently participated in numerous ORA USA medical mission trips and health fairs at his parish St Maria Goretti. He was a member of the Catholic Knights of Columbus in the USA and Knights of St Mulumba while in Nigeria. Omenka returned to his maker swiftly after a life well spent, surrounded by love and gratitude. He will be sorely missed by so many who have been positively impacted by his life. He was a philanthropist who belonged to numerous medical, cultural and social groups including ORAUSA, ETU, Peoples Club of Nigeria, ANNO. All who knew Chief Omenka, will always remember that he was a shinning beacon of light and hope, whose humble exuberance was inspiring. In his honor, please show kindness to one another.
