Elliott Burrell

Elliott Burrell went on to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 30, 2018 in New Orleans, LA. He was born on July 12,1947 in New Orleans, LA to his loving parents, Velma and Percy Burrell. Elliott grew up in the Uptown area, formerly known as the 12th ward and then moved to the Calliope Housing Project in New Orleans. He later attended James Derham Junior High and Booker T. Washington High School. Mechanic by trade, he worked for many automotive service centers to include Sears, Western Auto and Firestone before retiring and working for himself until his death. Elliott had a warm, welcoming and generous spirit in everything he encountered. His love for cars remained until he transitioned. He really enjoyed cars period. From the love of watching car shows, attending various car shows in various places including Houston, TX and/or keeping his own cars showroom clean. He loved going to car races all over. Elliott also loved traveling, always wanting to go somewhere different and accomplished much travel over his time here on earth. His energy towards life was amazing. Elliott never met a stranger. His passion for the less fortunate was always evident when it came to anything. “It is in giving that we receive” was his belief. He is preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Velma Toney Burrell; grandparents, Jake and Louise Toney and James Burrell and Celestine Burrell; one son, Vernon Joseph Burrell. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jacqueline L. Burrell of 45 years; one daughter, Tracey Cheri Burrell; two sons, Maurice P. Carrigan and Raymond R. Carrigan (wife, Thessalynn), all of Houston, TX; a devoted friend and son, Derrick Green of New Orleans, LA. Elliott also leaves to cherish his memories, his former wife, Mary Jones Burrell and former daughter-in-law, Lawanda Carrigan of Houston, TX; nine grandchildren, one great grandson and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. The family of Elliott Burrell is extremely grateful for the compassionate care provided by Dr. Robert Veith, Oncologist and his staff; MD Anderson; Dr. Jonathan Kurie and his staff; as well as Dr. James McCullough; Dr. James Butler and his staff of Slidell, LA; Carl I. Irvin, Sr. (friend who assisted with Elliott) and his last time on this earth. The Funeral Service will be held at Shiloh Christian Fellowship Baptist Church, 2441 N. Claiborne Ave. on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 11:00 am. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Arrangements by D.W.
