Dwight Gorum

Dwight (Big D) August Gorum was born August 13, 1948, and was the son of the late John and Odile Moreau Gorum. Dwight passed away on April 14, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love strength and cherish memories. His passing comes as a shock to those who knew and loved him, and he will be deeply missed. Dwight is survived by his wife, Judith Gorum and his sons Dwight Jr. and Justin Gorum. He also leaves behind to mourn his grandchildren Dramani, Kyja Love, Jhy, Kash, Kiing, and Maverick, as well as one great granddaughter, Sarai. He is also survived by host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Dwight was educated in the New Orleans School System. He was preceded in death by his sister Pamela Gorum Wagner, his brothers Gregory Gorum, Conrad Gorum, and Keith Gorum. During his teenage years, Dwight worked as a lifeguard for NORD and he also played basketball and baseball. He was a veteran in the United States Army and served in Korean. Dwight worked as a truck driver for CRC Global Solutions for many years dedicating himself to his work with pride and commitment. He was respected and loved by his coworkers who will remember him for his reliability and friendships he built along the way. He also worked for many years at Kaiser Aluminum Company where he was also known for his hard work and dedication. At one point, Dwight moved to Los Angeles, California where he lived for a time. However, his heart remained in New Orleans, and he eventually returned home where he truly belonged. Family meant everything to Dwight, and he took great pride in the bond they shared he was known for his love of cooking often, inviting family and friends over to enjoy his meals and a good time. He also loved sports and was a devoted fan of the New Orleans Saints, spending many Sundays watching football all day. He had a special love for his grandchildren, even though they lived out of state he made it a priority to travel to Los Angeles and Las Vegas throughout the year to spend time with them. They were the pride and joy of his life, the apple of his eye and he spoke about them often whether calling them on FaceTime or visiting them face-to-face, and taking them out on outings, he always made time for the grandchildren. He was the godfather to Theron Mercadel, John Christian and Gretchen Chase. He was father to Tyrone Potter of Los Angeles, Djuana Gorum Williams and his lifelong friend Vaugh Fauria. He will be remembered for his laughter, his generosity in the many memories he created with those closest to him. He would always make a joke out of something. Though his passing brings sorrow, his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends. The love he gave will not be forgotten. Goodbye Dwight, we will miss you.
