Dianne Washington Turks

Dianne Washington Turks departed this life to join her Savior in Glory at the age of 72, on September 22, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family. She was a life long resident of Gretna, Louisiana (Jonestown). She was the youngest of ten children born to the late Henderson Washington and Augustine Jones Washington, on October 17, 1952. Dianne attended L. W. Higgins High School and was in its first graduating class in 1970. She continued her studies at Meadows Draughon Business College in New Orleans, Louisiana in Accounting. Dianne began her career working at Dowell Division of Dowell Chemicals as a Regional Secretary and later as an Office Supervisor. She joined the Jefferson Parish School System in 1992 as a Teacher Assistant at Lincoln Elementary School. For many years she has worked with Jefferson Community School as a Secretary/Account Clerk. The School, now named Douglass Community School, recently relocated to the site of the Elementary School Dianne attended, Frederick Douglass Elementary School. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 35 years, Larry Turks. She was a devoted mother to her daughter Tyra Washington; step-children; Tameka (David) Brown, Hyacinth (Jason) Watkins, Yenda Turks; grandmother to Gerald Wayne Bailey, III and Faith Ayana Washington. She is survived by her siblings Alcenia Robinson, Herbert (Yvonne) Washington, Idella Washington (the late Lawrence Washington, Sr.), Marguerite Washington Avery (the late Earl Avery, Jr.), three brothers-in-law, Joseph Davis, Burnie Moss, Jr. and Daniel Lee Simmons, Sr.; five sisters-in-law; Beverly Allen, Mary (Lester, Sr.) Beauvia, Dysine Bowman, Jean (James) Casmere, Linda (James) Tate; and a godson James Chapman, Jr. She is joining her brothers and sisters in glory, Alvin Washington, Arthur Washington, Sr., Ethel Mae Washington Simmons, Leonard Washington, and Marcell Washington Moss; her brother-in-law Clarence Allen, and two sisters-in-law Ethlia Davis and Aletha Washington. She also leaves to mourn a host of nieces, nephews, family, and dear friends.
