Deborah Delpit Bart

Deborah Delpit Bart, affectionately known as “Nannie” was born March 20, 1923 in Madisonville, LA to the union of Ferdinand and Venita Candiff Delpit. She was the 1st born of 6 children. Deborah was baptized into the catholic faith where she remained until her passing on December 20, 2020. Deborah graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1939 located in the French Quarter. Deborah met her beloved husband Larry Bart in 1940, they were wed on November 11, 1942 the union of their marriage three children were born Melita, Larry II and Eugene Bart. Deborah worked for 40 years as a seamstress, a costume designer, a wedding and Mardi Gras ball dress designer. She loved making costumes for “The Title Float in Nomtoc Parades” She retired from Haspel Brothers but continued her costumes design productions from her home workshop until 2005. Deborah and Larry were the life of the party. They enjoyed Social Clubs and Mardi Gras balls. They enjoyed traveling especially to the Bahamas to see their daughter, grandchildren, and her sister. Nannie visited the Bahamas as often as she could to attend Weddings, birthdays and family functions. Deborah was a member of The Legion of Mary and Ladies Auxillary at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. She was devoted to her family, friends and her church. Often friends and family would call and ask her to offer prayers for them. You never saw Deborah without her rosary beads. She enjoyed visiting the sick and praying the rosary with them. Deborah was a diehard New Orleans Saints fan. She enjoyed the out of town bus rides. She would cheer the loudest when they won. She is preceded in death by her husband Larry Bart Sr., her daughter Melita Bart Moree, two sisters Cecile Rousseau and Leatrice Hornsby. She is survived by her sons Larry (Connie), Eugene (Cynthia) Bart, her brother Luke (Cheryl) Delpit, three sisters Carrise Thompson, Corale, (Delton) Moree, Debra Ann (Garry) Anderson, seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6828 Chef Menteur Hwy.
