David Lee Fountain Sr.

David Lee Fountain, Sr., son of the late Troy Fountain, Sr. and Wilma Fountain, was born February 16, 1942 in Collins Mississippi. David professed his faith in Jesus Christ at an early age and was a member of old Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Collins, Mississippi. He attended Carver Central High School in which he was a very inquisitive student. He excelled in science and won the Science Award. After graduating in 1961, he attended college for two years, but then moved to New Orleans, LA for a job. He worked on the riverfront as a freight handler, before retiring, after 30 years of loyal service. David was the pillar of his community and loved by everyone who knew him. He was affectionately known as the “Katrina Man”. He dedicated his life to his children, family, and friends. He treasured New Orleans and his neighborhood so much that he opened his home as the “Spirit of New Orleans Home Museum” and readily welcomed neighbors, visitors, and tourists. David quietly departed this life on January 28, 2021. He was the middle child of 10 children. David is preceded in death by his father: Troy Fountain, Sr., mother: Wilma Fountain, brothers: Vardeman Fountain, Leroy Fountain, Troy Fountain, Jr., and Ather Fountain, and sisters: Ora Diane Epps and Flora Lee Fountain. His life will forever be cherished by his daughters: Fontella F. Baker (Michael) and Christine F. Mitchell (Myron), his son and namesake: David Lee Fountain, Jr., his granddaughters: Breanna L. Ryan, Arin Ryan, and Myrissa A. Mitchell, his sister: Ruby Fountain, brothers: James Fountain and Randolph Fountain, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a visitation honoring the life of David Lee Fountain, Sr., at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Ave., New Orleans, LA 70125 on Friday, February 5, 2021 at 9:00 am to 10: 00 am. As mandated by the State of Louisiana due to the COVID-19 pandemic, attendance is limited. Everyone is required to adhere to all restrictions.
