Claudia Gail Sharett Agnew

Claudia Gail Sharett Agnew entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at the age of 75. Claudia was born on May 6, 1947 to the union of the late George and Leslie Gertrude Wade Sharett. She was the beloved wife of Dan Gilbert Agnew, Sr. and from that union they had one son, Dan Gilbert Agnew, Jr. She was baptized at Fifth African Baptist Church and was a faithful member until her illness. Claudia was educated in the public schools of New Orleans at Paul L. Dunbar Elementary School, Alfred C. Priestley Junior High School and Booker T. Washington Senior High School, Class of 1965. She also attended Southern University at New Orleans. Claudia worked for the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office for over 23 years. Because she garnered so much respect from the women she supervised at OPSO, they dubbed her the “Duchess,” and this title followed her into her personal life. She was an avid sports fan who enjoyed cooking and spending quality time with her family and friends at the many parties she hosted in her home. Claudia was preceded in death by her parents and brother, George Sharett, Jr.; sister, Brenda Joyce Sharett; nephew, Karl Weatherspoon and brother-in-law, John Weatherspoon, Sr. She is survived by her loving husband and son; sisters, Barbara S. Weatherspoon of San Francisco, CA, Sandra S. Brooks and Gilda R. Sharett. Survived also by her grandchildren, Dana Giselle Agnew, Dan Gilbert Agnew, III and Shakia Monet Agnew; nephew, John Weatherspoon, Jr. and great nephew, Corey Weatherspoon, both of San Francisco, CA and niece, Sharett L. Brooks of Chicago, IL. She will be missed by her cousins, many other relatives and friends. Her memory will be forever cherished. Family and Friends of Claudia “Duchess” Agnew are invited to attend a Celebration of her Life on Friday, January 27, 2023 at Fifth African Baptist Church 3419 S. Robertson Street, New Orleans, LA 70115. Visitation begins at 8:00 a.m. and the service will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery located at 4000 Norman Meyer Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70122.
