Brenda Mary Tervalon

Brenda Mary Tervalon, a beloved native of New Orleans, Louisiana, passed away peacefully at home on August 24, 2024. “Chookie” as she was affectionally known, made her earthly debut on May 15, 1942. She is preceded in death by her parents Warren D. Tervalon, Sr., Marjorie Toca Tervalon-Allen, and brother, Warren D. Tervalon, Jr. Brenda’s primary education began at Corpus Christi Catholic School. She graduated from Joseph S. Clark High School and Southern University at New Orleans, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Her career began at AT&T, formerly Western Electric, in Business Operations, over 20 years. Brenda retired from the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority. Not one to remain idle, Brenda earned her Property Managers license, during retirement. She spent the next several years with Carnival Cruise Line. Brenda was a loving mother, devoted grandmother, and fiercely independent. She enjoyed traveling, hosting family and friends, working in her garden, Mardi Gras balls, and jazz music festivals. Chookie was a proud member of the Who Dat Nation! She could strike up a conversation with anyone. A long-time Gentilly resident, Brenda’s neighbors lovingly called her “Ms. B.” Brenda is survived by her daughter Kim Doucette, granddaughter Kailye Porche, sisters Sylvia Tervalon, Sandra Porche, Nancy Tervalon, and brother Edward Allen Jr., along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and beloved friends. Brenda’s spirit lives in everyone impacted by her kindness, grace, beauty, and generosity. She will be greatly missed.
