It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of our beloved father, Bernell W Green. At the age of 95, Bernell departed this life in New Orleans, LA, having touched the lives of many. He passed away peacefully at University Medical Center on December 13, 2025, surrounded by those who loved him dearly. Bernell was born on November 3, 1930, as the only child to Willie I. Green and Gladys B. Dickerson. Throughout his life, he was known for his kindness and generosity, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he encountered. His professional journey began as a cook, where he demonstrated remarkable skill and dedication. Later, he transitioned to a career as a laborer, bringing an unwavering commitment and a strong work ethic to every role he undertook. Bernell’s innate curiosity and talent for problem-solving were evident in the way he approached his hobbies. He found great satisfaction in taking apart and repairing small appliances, always eager to understand how things worked and to restore them to function. This hands-on interest was not limited to household items; Bernell’s true passion lay in working on cars. He dedicated countless hours to automotive projects, immersing himself in the intricacies of engines and machinery. His remarkable ability to diagnose vehicle issues simply by listening to the sounds they made was a testament to his skill and intuition. Even after health challenges led to his early retirement, Bernell’s industrious spirit never diminish. His enthusiasm for life and his dedication to his interests continued to inspire those around him, serving as a lasting example of perseverance and joy in pursuing one’s passions. Bernell is survived by his daughters, Joan D. Williams, Sandra G. Riley (Micheal), and Karen A. Green. In addition to his immediate family, a host of extended family members and friends will miss him dearly and cherish his memory always. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, his stepfather Daniel Dickerson, his daughters Edith D. Bell and Manya G. Jordan, and his grandson Danton V. Holliday Jr. Their memories remain cherished within the family’s heart. Bernell’s legacy lives on through his family. He was a proud grandfather of five grandchildren, and his family continues with five great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren, each carrying forward his memory and the values he instilled. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the medical team at University Medical Center. Their compassion and care during Bernell’s time there were deeply appreciated. Special thanks are also extended to the staff at St. Bernard Nursing Facility, formerly known as Good Samaritan. Their support and dedication provided comfort to Bernell. Bernell W. Green’s legacy of love, joy, and compassion will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by family and friends alike. May he rest in eternal peace. A celebration honoring Bernell W Green’s remarkable life will be held at D. W. Rhodes Funeral Home, located at 3933 Washington Ave., New Orleans, LA on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 9:00 AM, (visitation starting at 8:00 AM until service).
