Berlin Carey

Berlin Bertrand Carey departed this earthly life on March 5, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Berlin was born on November 5, 1947 TO Napoleon Sr. and Lebora Thomas Carey in Vacherie, LA. he was one of four children, including Claudia Jean Carey, Napoleon Jr., Janice Meeks, and Leslie Carey. Berlin was educated in the St. James Parish School System and immediately began his career shortly after. He spent some time at Brown and Root and eventually became a crane rigger at Avondale Shipyards, retiring in 2012. He married Ida Mary Dumas on October 19, 1966 and to this union two children were born, Glenice and Aaron Carey. Berlin was baptized into the catholic faith at Our Lady of Peace on October 8, 1966, and continued to be a member until his passing. Berlin was a loving and devoted husband, parent, grandfather and great grand father during his earthly time. Berlin and his wife, Ida, opened Niecy’s Place, a local bar in their community. during their time as the bar’s owners they created many memories and a lot of friends. He was also an avid Cowboys’ fan and could often be found cheering them on and “trash talking” with his family and friends about football. He even had a sign on his driveway naming it the Dallas Cowboys Drive. He enjoyed having a good time and being with his family. In his later days he could usually be found sitting outside his home, waving to his neighbors as they passed by. Memories of his life will be cherished by his children Glenice and Aaron Carey, grandchildren Javonne, Janard, Tania, and Amarion Carey, great-grandchildren Reign Octave and Cacey Carey, siblings Janice Meeks and Leslie Carey, godchildren Cindy Long and Kaye Henry, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Berlin was preceded in death by his parents Napoleon Sr. and Lebora Thomas Carey, his wife Ida Mary Carey, sister Claudia Jean Carey, and brother Napoleon Carey, Jr. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on March 15, 2025 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Vacherie, La. Visitation will be begin at 10am followed by Mass at Noon. Interment in the church cemetery.
