Aljean Franklin Butler

Ms. Aljean “Jean” F. Butler transitioned to her heavenly resting place on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Our Lady of Wisdom Community Care Center in New Orleans, LA. Ms. Aljean was eighty-one (81) years old. She was born on March 21, 1942 in Columbia, Mississippi and later moved to New Orleans, LA which became her home. In 1962, she graduated high school from George Washington Carver High School. At an early age, she received Jesus Christ and was baptized at St. John Baptist Church in Expos, Mississippi. (I have heard of Eupora) ?????? To her family and friends, she was known as “Jean”. “Jean” enjoyed cooking. She was a hard worker and worked in the cooking profession for approximately twenty (20) years. She had six (6) children and was a very devoted, loving and caring mother. Her love was unconditional and all who met her could sense the genuineness of it. Therefore, she became the adopted mother/ grandmother to so many others. To describe “Jean”, her children and grandchildren resound the words: mild- mannered, meek, patient, a provider, a giver, thoughtful, and very supportive-always there for us. After working tireless hours, she would always come home with snacks and sometimes take them for a car ride. She never complained about anything-even if the children and grandchildren used her as a pillow to rest or sleep. In addition, she loved doing things for her grandchildren, such as buying Easter candy and supported them by attending every event or special occasion of theirs. And, let’s not forget her charm. Every birthday, when asked, “How old are you? She would say, “I’ve turned 16.” She is preceded in death by her parents: Mr. Mylus Franklin, Sr. and Mrs. Ida Franklin, Columbia, MS; two daughters: Ms. Janet Butler and Ms. Joy Brooks. She leaves to cherish her memories, her children: Mr. Adam “Corey” (wife, Tonyaneka “Precious”) Mashia, Harvey, LA; Mr. Gary Mashia (wife, Kacie), San Antonio, TX; Mr. Ty (special friend, Selisa McDowell) Mashia, Dallas, TX; Mr. Delroy (wife, Danelle) Mashia, Houston, TX; her siblings: Ms. Christine Jackson, Ms. Clementine Franklin and Mr. Mylus Franklin, Jr., all of New Orleans, LA; eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend her Funeral Service at Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Avenue on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at 10:00 am.
