Steven Ray Brown

January 12, 2022

Legendary New Orleans DJ and entertainer Steven Ray Brown’s love of life and legacy will not end with his passing. Steven passed away on January 12, 2022 at the age of 57 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones who will honor his legacy and valor by living their lives to the fullest just as he did. Steven was born on October 14, 1964 to Ms. Marie Brown and the late Willie Brown in New Orleans Louisiana. During elementary age Steve’s mother moved him and his two younger brothers to Oakland California where he developed a love for sports and music. He played junior varsity and varsity basketball at McClymonds High school where he obtained his diploma in 1982, setting an example for his brothers after their father’s passing. At the age of 22 Steven accepted the Lord as his Savior in Christ and set to embark on his life journey as a young man. In 1995 he moved back to New Orleans where he would hone in on his love for music and began to build his empire as a renounced local DJ. He went by the name “DJ Ice Baby”, and he played and MC’d many venues and events in New Orleans. His remarkable talent and big personality will be missed. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Steven. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Steven could always be found watching and cheering on the Saints or 49ers during a football game, as well as frequenting the local bar or casino where he was celebrated by those who knew him. He had an uncanny ability to find happiness in his daily activities. Steven is survived by his Wife Donna, four Children; Juane, Stephanie, Steven Jr. and Javon, mother Marie, three brothers; Timmy, Corey, and Theron, A host of grand children, and a devoted companion Glarie “Lilly” Nash . Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend at Funeral Service at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Avenue on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 10:00 am. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am. Attendance is limited and everyone is required to adhere to all restrictions. You must wear a face mask at all times and practice social distancing. Interment: Providence Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements by D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, New Orleans, LA. Please visit www.rhodesfuneral.com to sign the guestbook.
