Shelly Renee' Davis

Shelly Renee’ Davis was born on January 7, 1956 to Joyce Marie Davis and Albert Ernest Davis. She attended Andrew Wilson Elementary, Sophie B. Wright Middle School, and Eleanor McMain High School, where she tested into the competitive Magnet Program. Shelly was an avid dancer, attending Kelly’s Dance School where she specialized in several forms of dance including tap, ballet, contemporary and much more. Shelly was extremely talented in dance, and as a musical connoisseur, had a lifelong dream of opening a dance school. Shelly was baptized at the age of 16 at St. Joseph Baptist Church under Reverend C.J Allen. Shelly was a spiritual being, often using a spirit of discernment and wisdom to help guide loved ones and strangers alike. Shelly was a woman who respectfully demanded and gave respect to all no matter their title or position. She was an OG. To know her was to love her. She would give the shirt off her back to those in need and whom she loved. Shelly was the life of the party. She always had a fun spirit and witty banter with all she encountered- no one could outwit her. She was hilarious and would have everyone laughing and feeling like they were the best of friends. Shelly had a way of making everyone feel special and seen. She never met a stranger. Shelly will always be remembered for her fun loving, funny, and wise nature, that lit up every room that she walked in. The ones who get it- get it, and the ones who don’t- don’t. Shelly definitely got it. Shelly was a faithful and committed mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt, cousin and friend. She absolutely loved her family, who could do no wrong in her eyes. She was always in their corner, right or wrong. Shelly dedicated her life to teaching, leading, guiding, protecting and loving her children and granddaughter (her Sugarbowl). There was nothing that Shelly could not do. She was our go to counselor and confidant. Shelly was shortly succeeded in death by her mother Joyce Marie Davis. She was preceded in death by: her Father Albert Ernest Davis, her Grandparents Ida Mae Johnson and Edward Johnson, her sons Jai Deshon Cook and Arthur Rhodes, Jr, her sister Terry Davis Vigne, and best friend Jo Ann (Dottie) Shy. She leaves to cherish her memories: her children Javelyn Renee’ Davis, James Madison Cook Jr, Jasmin Lynn Cook, & Jamyra Allioane Cook. Her granddaughter Jayla Shanae Davis, her Sister, Erin Marie (scoo) Davis, her brothers Clarence (Tracey) Russ, Lyle Johnson, Frank (Joenika) Johnson. Her nieces & nephews: Kimberly, Amber, Tyreanne, Franchae, Farrah, Synia , Faith, Tre (Aryiel), Frank, Elijah & France. Her best friend Lisa (Couzan) Williams and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and loved ones. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Ave. New Orleans, LA 70125.
