Rosebell Francis Washington

Rosebell Francis Washington was born in Roatan, Honduras on September 17, 1922 to the late Martha Johnson and Charles Francis. Little did they know that one day she would be a blessing to so many. Rosebell migrated to New Orleans in 1960. She was employed by Edgar and Marion Bright as a domestic worker. She was preceded in death by her husband George Washington and her son Roderick Francis. Rosebell was loved by so many people. She was affectionately referred to as “Mami” by family, friends and neighbors. Rosebell was a delight to all with whom she came in contact. Her favorite pastimes were cooking, baking lemon meringue pies, and carrot cakes. Her recipes were sought after by all who had the pleasure of partaking in one of her favorite meals. Rosebell loved life, family and a good laugh. She had a subtle sense of humor that she expressed naturally and loved to share a good joke. (Some of her jokes were not so clean). Rosebell also enjoyed watching television and dancing to her favorite Caribbean music. She was a member of Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church, but was no longer able to attend church services due to her failing health. Rosebell enjoyed having company over, but after a few minutes she was ready for them to leave. She enjoyed taking trips to South Carolina to spend time with her grandson Abraham and his wife Liz. Rosebell was always willing to share what little she had with anyone in need, be they family, friend or stranger. Her home became known as a safe haven to those in need of temporary lodging. Rosebell leaves to cherish her memory six (6) children: Norman, Dolan, Jasmin, Cleo, Roy, and Martha; 27 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, 20 great-great grandchildren, her loving and devoted son-in law Randy, her adopted daughters Grace, and Veronica, and two godchildren. Relatives, and friends of the family are invited to a funeral service at Rising Star Baptist Church, 8817 Hickory Street New Orleans, LA 70118 on Friday, April 28, 2023 at 11:00 am.
