Portia Pollock

Portia Pollock was born in Atlanta, GA March 13, 1961 to the union of Ernestine Davis Pollock and Ronald Pollock, I. Portia spent her early years in Atlanta and graduated from Fredrick Douglass High School. While in high school, Portia was a member of the Marching Astros and played clarinet. After high school she attended Xavier University. While at Xavier she was a trainer for the Xavier Gold Rush Women’s Basketball Team. Portia also pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha Epsilon TAU. Shortly after this time Portia transferred to Georgia State University to complete her studies, where she earned her Bachelor of Science. After her studies, Portia moved back to New Orleans and began her career as a licensed physical therapist. During her free time Portia was an active and highly accomplished member of the New Orleans drum community. Every Sunday she could be found drumming with The Congo Square Drummers in Armstrong Park. Portia leaves to mourn her death her brother, Ronald G. Pollock, II of Jacksonville, FL (Stephanie Oliver); her nieces, Diara Wiley of Atlanta, GA and Sydney Pollock of Chicago, IL; great nephew, Jeremiah Seals; great niece, Jayda Lindsey; God Daughter, Fatima Muse of Dallas, TX and sister- in-law, Teramena Oliver of Memphis, TN (Effrem Oliver). Her beloved pets, Cymbal and Shaquille, also miss and mourn her passing. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Memorial Service at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Avenue on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 12:30 pm. Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm. Interment: Private.
