Mercedes Rideau Smith Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Mercedes Rideau Smith, 91, of Gretna, LA, passed away Monday, January 24, 2022. Mercedes was born in Palmetto (Rideau Settlement), LA, August 23, 1930. She was an active member of St. Anthony Church. She is survived by her children; Wanda Smith, Marva S. Bush (Joseph), Kevin Smith (Darlene), Duane Smith (Evelyn), Elfrida S. Flint (Alvin), Jacynthia S. Macdonald (Kevin), Juan Smith, Christy S. Sloman (Larry), 18 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, J.W. Smith; her parents, Frank B. and Mamie J. Rideau; siblings: Frank A. Rideau, Paul Rideau, John Rideau, Reginald Rideau, Peter Rideau, Veronica R. Thompson, Jean R. Guient, William Rideau, Errol Rideau Sr. and Ann R. Jackson. Mercedes was a matriarch beyond measure. She was loved by many, respected by all and will be eternally missed. The family extends a sincere thank you to all who have shown their love and support. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 924 Monroe St., Gretna, LA 70053 (corner of Franklin and Burmaster Streets) on Monday, January 31 at 12:00 pm; The Holy Rosary will be prayed at 11:30 am.
