Mechelle Adele Lea was given wings and took flight to a place of eternal rest on Saturday, April 24, 2021 Mechelle was born in New Orleans, LA to Mary Dalton Lea and the late Andrew Lea Sr. on April 10, 1964. She accepted Christ as her savior and was baptized at Pilgrim Progress Missionary Baptist Church by the late Rev. Dr. John Francis Jr. Mechelle was educated in the Orleans Parish School system. She was a 1980 graduate of Eleanor McMain Senior High School and a proud 1985 graduate of Southern University at New Orleans with a degree in business administration. She was preceded in death by her father, Andrew Lea Sr., both her maternal and paternal grandparents; two aunts, Bertha Lea and Clara Wells Lea; two uncles, Ernest Lea Jr. and Edwin Lea Sr. Mechelle leaves to cherish her memories, her loving and devoted mother, Mary D. Lea, her handsome son, Justyne Andrew Joseph, her brother Andrew Lea Jr. (Diane) of LaPlace, La; her sister Bridget Lea-Thompson (Gregory) of Slidell, La; several aunts Lucille Payne, Helen Williams, Thelma Armstrong, Catherine Lea, Mary Lea Holmes, Jackie Dugas, and Evelyn Pettus. Several Uncles Joseph Lea, Isaac Lea, Hiram Dalton, Louis Armstrong, and Nolan Payne. Two loving nephews, Dwayne Lea of New Orleans and SGT Jarred Thompson (Leigha) stationed at Fort Hood in Killeen, TX, three beautiful nieces Chelsea Jacque of LaPlace, La; Jewell Thompson and Jaide Thompson both of Slidell, La.; three energetic great nephews; Micah, Zephaniah, and Christopher (C.J.) and a host of other family, cousins and friends. She also had three devoted cousins, Zelma Evans of Westwego, La; Doris Shaffer of Geismer, LA; and Gwen Reado of New Orleans. She never met a stranger and always had a friend. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Funeral Service at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Avenue on Friday, April 30, 2021 at 6:00 pm with Rev. Roy H. Williams officiating. Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm. A Graveside Service will be held at St. Mark Baptist Church Cemetery, Batchelor, LA on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 11:00 am. Arrangements by D.W.
