Mack C. McKay, Jr. was born January 26, 1949, in Magnolia, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma L. J. McKay and his Father, M. C. McKay, Sr. Also preceded by his sister, Bertile Bradley (Howard), Lavern McKay Williams (Gerald), brother-in-law Fred Ruffin. He leaves to fight the good fight of faith, Angelene McKay Ruffin, Lawrence McKay (Alma) and Mildred McKay. Married for 43 years to his loving wife, Joann McKay. Four children, Tajalena S. McKay Sholes (David), Joell Lee, Michelle M. McKay and Timothy P. McKay (Melanie). Grandchildren Jarrad (Sierra), Jaron, Jayden, Lawrence and Ivory, great-grandchildren, Jayse, Vincent, and Nau’ Jour. Sister-in-law and brothers-in-law. A host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends (best friend- Joseph Preyan and adopted as a son, Talmedge Dixon). Mack is a member of Greater St. Stephen Full Gospel Church and was a regular participant in his Sunday School class - Class “A”. He loved attending his Sunday School class. Mack was a proud alumnus of St. Augustine Senior High School and often talked about Father Grant and others who helped him as a young man to become part of an Afro-American school for young men that changed his life. He was an all-American athlete and played professional baseball for a short period of time. He did not get a chance to complete his latest desire, but his plan was to be a part of opening a school where young black men could enroll in classes to become AC/Heating Technicians, Electrical engineers, plumbers, etc. Mack started working for Shell Oil Company in the 70’s, moving on to Louisiana Land and Exploration as an Oil and Gas Accountant, where he retired. He attended Southern University of New Orleans. He received his license to become an AC/Heating Technician and worked diligently for many years, recently retiring. Loved by so many, full of wisdom and a wealth of knowledge. Rest in peace Brother Mack. Due to the rising number of Omicron Variant cases our funeral services capacity and gathering had to modified for the safety of our volunteers, family and friends. Here is GSS order of service. The gathering amount should NOT exceed 125 people. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to a Funeral Service at Greater St. Stephens Full Gospel Baptist Church, 5600 Read Blvd. on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 10:00 am. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Arrangements by D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Avenue. Please visit www.rhodesfuneral.com to sign the guestbook.
