Geneva Scott Stanford
May 1, 2021
Geneva Scott Stanford was born to Abel Scott and Alberta Mundy Scott, May 9, 1931 in Camden, MS, the oldest of 10 children. At the age of 10, she went to live with her maternal grandparents, Lisa and Sam Mundy, working with them on their farm in Pickens, MS. There began her lifelong love for gardening and for all God’s creatures. A woman of boundless faith in the Lord, she was elegant, gracious, and humble. That faith carried her through many challenging times, sustaining her all through her life up to the very end when she was diagnosed with fast-moving ALS. A resident of the “Lower 9th” for over 65 years, she was a generous friend to all she met, especially to the children of the neighborhood to whom she mentored and ministered. On May 1, 2021, Geneva died peacefully at home, listening to her favorite gospel songs. Predeceased by her parents, first husband Catrell Marshall, and son Lee Roy (Bill) Marshall, her only child. Survived by her grandson Mekado Murphy of New York, NY, sisters Mary Powell of Blytheville, AR, Fannie Scott, of Decatur, GA, and Elizabeth Atkinson of Biloxi, MS, and loving niece Dylester Scott, also of Decatur, GA. Following her wishes, a simple Graveside Service will be held at Garden of Memories, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA on Friday, May 6, 2021 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please donate in her memory to Covenant House of New Orleans, or the charity of your choice. Arrangements by D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Avenue.
