Elaine Evans
January 22, 2022
Elaine Evans, age 83, was born in Historic Cane River, Louisiana to the parents of Alton & Gertrude. Her life depicted one of compassion and grace and her home was always the center of laughter, love and large gatherings. Her kind, compassionate heart was like loving arms to many who needed a safe place to rest and renew. She often opened her home to those in transitory states of life who sought her comfort and wise counsel to guide them back to a place of wholeness. A rare beauty, she carried herself with a refinement in all of her affairs. Rarely a cross word spoken, she knew the importance of maintaining dignity despite life’s adversities. She loved laughter, to have fun and surrounded herself with family and friends-turned-family who loved the same. Her door always open, her home was the center of joyous occasions both large and small. An early bird, it was not uncommon for Elaine to tell guests to “keep the party going and turn the lights off behind you”. She served as mother for the motherless and a friend to anyone in need of one. Entertaining and hosting weekend gatherings, riding on the back of her son's motorcycle, silly times with her siblings and children, and adventures with old loves were some of her favorite pastimes. Elaine's very strong devotion to her faith, quiet power, beauty and refinement in her actions serve as powerful examples for her children, grandchildren and all who knew her to live by. Elaine served as an Earth Angel for Angel Flight, an organization which arranges free air transportation for patients with urgent medical needs. Her role on the missions was to comfort patients and family members and also to serve as co-pilot. She also served on the outreach mission at her church helping to feed the poor. Always helping anyone she could, Elaine served in silence with a compassionate, humble heart, never wanting anything in return. Elaine crossed over into the Heavenly kingdom on January 22, 2022 surrounded by the love of her children. She leaves behind a son, Keith (Melanie), three daughters Janet, Lisa and Lorna (Patrick), grandchildren Bryce and Natalie, brother Alton, three sisters Judith, Phyllis and Lorraine (Nathan), and 2 beloved grand dogs: Foxy and Pop-Pop. Those wishing to honor her memory are welcome to donate to her favorite charities: Angel Flight at https://www.angelflightse.org/ or Saint Labre Indian School at https://www.stlabre.org/. A funeral mass and celebration of her life will be held in late Spring.
