Edith Reaves

Edith Reaves affectionately known as “ Gran” was born on September 18, 1922, in New Orleans, Louisiana to her loving parents Edith Wooden Rock and Raymond Rock Sr. She was born and raised in the 7th ward of New Orleans on Spain Street, where she enjoyed spending time with her sisters Doris, Audrey, Helen and her Brother Raymond Jr. She attended Valena C. Jones Elementary School and graduated from the 7th grade. Edith met and married her first husband Charles Williams. They were Blessed with five children: Deanna, Merlin, , Kerry, Norma and Linda. She later met and married her second husband, Rollin Reaves, and they were Blessed with a son, Gregory Reaves. Edith was a tireless matriarch, this was evidenced repeatedly as she gave of herself to help raise grandchildren, cousins and friends. She was always there when any family member or friend was in need, to provide comfort, tender loving care or a good meal. Gran loved to cook and spend time entertaining family and friends; you could always catch her on the dance floor having a good ole time. She enjoyed Mardi Gras and watching her Saints play on Sunday. She enjoyed taking streetcar rides with her grandkids and showing them all of the historical landmarks throughout the city of New Orleans. Edith’s place in life will be solely missed, but her memory will forever be cherished by her Children, Kerry (Charity) Williams, of Jackson, Ms., Norma Cameron (late Ezra), of Grand Rapids, MI, Linda Williams (late Clarence), of Matteson, Il and Gregory (Brenda) Reaves of New Orleans, LA She is preceded in death by her parents Edith and Raymond Rock Sr, son Merlin Williams, daughter Deanna Webb--, 2 grandsons Nicholas Williams and Christopher Cameron, Sisters Helen Ricard and Audrey Kennedy, brother Raymond Rock Jr, 3 brother in laws Emile Ricard, Dan Olsen and Fred Kennedy. She is survived by 20 Grandchildren, 41 Great grandchildren and 14 Great- great grandchildren and 1 Sister Doris Olsen.
