Dolores Darby Lagarde

Dolores Darby Lagarde affectionately known as “Ms. Dee” was born on February 5, 1937 in New Orleans, Louisiana and peacefully departed this life on November 8, 2021, at Lafon Nursing Facility of the Holy Family. She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Darby and mother, Agnes Oliver; brother, Joseph Darby and her husband of 32 years, Armand Lagarde and step-sons, Armand, Jr. and Kevin Lagarde. She is survived by her brother, Frank Bernard Darby (of Los Angeles, California). She is also survived by her daughter, Beverly Greenwood (Keith) and sons: Irvin, Jr of Texas, Jeffrey, Sr. (Bridgette), Michael, Sr (Rene) and Larry Boudreaux, Sr. (Kaloa): her step children, Lloyd, Sr. (Rosalind), Brian, Sr., Anthony, Sr. (Donna) and Ronald Lagarde; Julie Ann Young, Monique Elizey and Pamela Lagarde (Kevin). She is survived by her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a special nurturing bond with her grandchildren Larry, Jr and Lauren Boudreaux. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, beloved cousins and In-Laws. Dolores was a kind, caring and loving mother. She always was ready to help anyone in need or distress. She had a loving heart and giving spirit, if you had a need she would find a way to work it out. She often helped strangers and there were times that both she and her husband would go beyond a helping hand but housed them and assisted them to get on their feet. Dolores loved people and adored her family. Dolores attended St. Mary’s Academy and completed her last year of high school at Booker T. Washington, where she learned her lifetime passion and career in secretarial work. Dolores re-committed her life to Christ in 2009 at Lower Light Baptiste Church (Believer’s Temple of Faith Church) under the leadership of Pastor Kenneth Davis. She volunteered her time doing record keeping for the church, until she began to have health problems. She loved volunteering her time to the church; she saw it as doing work for the Lord. Dolores loved working as a secretary, she put those skills to work at Majestic Insurance Company, Central Congregational Church for 10 years under Reverend Green, Office of OMI, and Attorney Gerdes Law Firm. She also worked for the New Orleans Parish School Board for 10 years and the City of New Orleans in various departments over 10 years. She retired but decided to come out of retirement to become the Administrative Assistant to her daughter at Lafon Nursing Facility of the Holy Family for 9 years. She loved her job, the residents and their families, as well as the staff at Lafon, however after Covid 19 invaded the healthcare industries, she was forced to retire, again. She enjoyed helping people and showed love to all those who met her. The year she spent at home after the Covid 19 outbreak was very difficult on her because of her love of people. She loved her neighbors, who affectionately looked out for her particularly after her husband’s death. In her final days, she tried to prepare her family for her departure. She wanted her family to know that she “loved each and every one of them and prayed for them, daily”. She expressed the love she always had for her family no matter the circumstances. She trust in the Lord and lived by “The Lord is my Light and My Salvation….” Psalms 27. She wanted her life to represent the will of God and how we must stay faithful to his words. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Funeral Service at Believers Temple of Faith, 4422 Ray Avenue on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 10:00 am. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am.
