New Orleans, LA – Christopher Benjamin Johnson, 57, departed this life on July 13, 2022, at his residence. He was born December 25, 1964, the son of Esau Johnson and Dorothy Davis Johnson. Chris attended Eleanor McMain Magnet High School, and graduated from Alcee Fortier High School, Class of 1982. Following graduation, he served with the U.S. Army at Fort Dixon, New Jersey. A jack of all trades, Chris held jobs as a cook, repair person, auto mechanic, and small appliance repairman. Chris was preceded in death by his father, Esau Johnson, and sister Gwendolyn Johnson-Roy. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Davis Johnson of New Orleans, LA, his wife, Contrenda Bethley-Johnson of Zachary, LA, son, Kenneth J. Gaines (Jordan) of Westwego, LA, bonus children, Artivia & Jerammane Williams, Kiara Bethley of Zachary, LA, grandchildren Kennedy J. Gaines, Kenneth J. Gaines of Opelousas, LA, Kingston & Kahlani Gaines of Westwego, LA. Sisters Barbara Peters, Emelda Johnson, Antoinette Mills (Tyrone), Jacqueline Lefrere (Jason) of New Orleans, LA, and Bridget M. Johnson-Hendrix (Cebron) of Beaumont, Texas, and a host of nieces, nephews, and devoted friends. Relatives and friends of the family, physicians, and staff of the University Hospital Cancer Center and Bienville Housing Development are invited to a Celebration of Life at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Ave, on Friday, July 29, 2022 at 10:00 am. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am. Elder Berlinda Bias, Greater St. Stephen Full Gospel Baptist Church officiating.
