February 5, 2022
God, in his infinite wisdom, granted Bernice “Bunny” Amiker Jones her heavenly wings and called her home on February 5, 2022 at 5:40 p.m. Bernice was 84 years of age. She was one of six children born to the union of the late Samuel and Elma Amiker. Bernice was a graduate of the class of 1956 from Booker T. Washington High School. Upon graduation, she entered Booker T. Washington Licensed Practical Nursing Program. Bernice worked at the historic Charity Hospital until relocating to St. Louis, Missouri where she resided until shortly before her passing. While in St. Louis, she worked as a nurse at Barnes Jewish Hospital and after obtaining a college education, switched career fields to social work. Bernice worked for the betterment of her community until she retired from her position as a Social Services Analyst for the State of Missouri. She was a confidant to many and offered her wisdom to all who knew her. An avid traveler, Bernice visited many places, domestic and abroad, including Germany, The Bahamas, Mexico and several states throughout the United States. Over the years, Bernice would often travel back to New Orleans to visit family during the holidays, for special events such as graduations and recitals, and sometimes just because. At the time of her passing Bernice was the matriarch of the family and the glue that kept everyone together. She made her routine phone calls to get updates on the family current events. Bernice was never one to mince her words. She delivered criticism as well as praise with a hug and love which always left her loved ones with a smile in their heart. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, her 5 siblings: Albirda Perkins, Samuel Amiker, Dorothy McDonald, Helen Williams, and Carl Amiker; an aunt, Maggie Amiker, a beloved niece Brenda Morgan Wilson, and a nephew Wyndell Williams. She leaves to cherish her memory: her nieces, Diedre Vincent, Saundra Watts, Efylma Braniff and Jeanetta Barton; a nephew, Rolen Williams; great nieces Wyquita Grandnigo, Chrystina Thornton and her beloved Chanda Wilson; great nephews Jermon Wilson (Danielle), James Williams, Marquis Watts (Mattie), and Terrence Watts, Jr, (Aisha); beloved great-great nephew Brandon Lewis, and a host of other relatives and friends. Members of the Booker T. Washington Class of ‘56, the State of Missouri, St. Joseph Hospice and Barnes Jewish Hospice and all family and friends are welcomed to attend the funeral services held on Friday, February 11, 2022 for 11 am at Calvary Tabernacle C.M.E.
