Our Beloved Augustine J. Greenwood transitioned from this life on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at the age of 80. Augustine was the wife of the late Jasper Greenwood Jr. Mother of Michele Armour, Mitchell Armour III (Vanessa), Mickey Armour, Micsheila Armour (Erwin), Rosemary Greenwood-Campbell (Brian), and Geraldine Greenwood-Lashley (Corey). Bonus son, Markus Wittman. Sister of Leana Davis (O’Neal), Cora Lightfoot (Louis), Brenda Steward, Beverly Hickerson, John W. Taylor Jr., Ernest Taylor (Donna), Walter Taylor Sr (Adrian), the late Richard A. Taylor, the late Henry Jackson Jr., and the late Rockesy Cushner. Sister- in-law of Rosemary Domino (Jeffery), the late Ernest Greenwood Sr. and the late Gerald Greenwood Sr. She also leaves behind sisters and brothers in law from her previous marriage to Mitchell Armour Jr. She was preceded in death by three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Survived by fifteen Grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. A Time to be Born: On Sunday, February 22, 1942, the late Rockesy Twine-Taylor and Henry Jackson Sr. welcomed a beautiful, thirteen-pound, baby girl into the world. Born in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, Augustine was one of thirteen children of Rockesy Twine-Taylor. A Time to Develop Passion and Purpose: At a young age, Augustine became a caregiver to her younger siblings. Through her love for children, she became a professional nanny in her adolescent years. She also developed a love for homemaking and became a housekeeper. Augustine took much pride in ensuring that every home she tended to be left tidy and filled with love. Augustine loved dancing and listening to music with her family and close friends. She enjoyed singing gospel hymns, like “Oh How I Love Jesus” while she cooked, cleaned and rocked her grandbabies to sleep. She was a member of a social and pleasure club called the Funsters with her sister and close friends. She hosted club meetings where she enjoyed entertaining with delicious food, good music and beautifully decorated rooms in her home. A Time to Love and Nurture: Augustine, the Matriarch of her family, was loved by many. Her presence filled rooms with warmth, joy and unconditional love. Family meant the world to Augustine, so it was to no surprise that she embraced motherhood gracefully. She deeply cared for her neighbors and her community and would often take on the mother and grandmother role to many she met. Augustine was an avid gardener who helped build a community garden and worked with individuals and organizations to help bring back the community after Hurricane Katrina. A Time to Honor Her Legacy: Augustine J. Greenwood will be laid to rest on Friday, June 10, 2022, at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 4000 Norman Mayer Ave., New Orleans, LA 70122. Visitation will take place at Noon on June 10, 2022, at Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Ave., New Orleans, LA 70125. Following visitation, a service to honor the late Augustine Greenwood will occur at 1pm at Rhodes Funeral Home. Arrangements entrusted to D. W. Rhodes Funeral Home.
