Armand Peter Mercadel Sr.

Armand Peter Mercadel, Sr., devoted husband, father, and grandfather departed this life peacefully at his home on April 8, 2021 on his 80th birthday. Born April 8, 1941 to Marcel Mercadel and Florence Mercadel Magee. Armand was one of twenty-two siblings and even as a teenager Armand was known as the brother to take care of his siblings in a father type role. A native New Orleanian who grew up in the 7th ward, he attended Valena C. Jones and Rivers Fredrick School. Armand married the love of his life, Carolyn Baudy Mercadel. Together they shared their life with their children Rachel Mercadel Gutter, Armand Mercadel, Jr., and Troy Mercadel. Armand was a brick layer by trade and a member of the BAC Local #1 Union and worked for several companies over his career. Some of the landmarks you pass today in the city, has his special touch on it, such as, the Aquarium of Americas, Xavier University’s University Center, the Convention Center, and NOCCA. Armand will be remembered most for his love of cooking and sharing a meal with anyone who would ask. Armand was an outdoors man and shared his love for gardening, fishing, and hunting with anyone he could. He was a father figure for so many throughout the 7th ward and his legacy will live on through the many people’s lives he touched. Armand was preceded in death by his mother and father, mother-in-law Ethel Mae Baudy, father in-law Herbert Baudy, Sr., brothers James Mercadel (Consuella), George Mercadel (Clothile), Leo Mercadel(Juanita), Harold Mercadel (Oriane), Burnell Mercadel (Adele), Anthony Mercadel(Gene), Huey Mercadel, Gerald Mercadel, Lester Mercadel, Norman Boulieu, as well as sisters Desiria Vance (Willie), Louise Lewis (Roland), Ramona Brisco, Doreen Polk, sister-in-law Joyce Mercadel, brother-in-law Herbert Baudy Jr., daughter-in-law Tina Mercadel, God-son Lawrence Miller. Armand leaves behind to carry on his legacy his devoted wife of 59 years, Carolyn Baudy Mercadel, daughter Rachel Gutter (Jerry), sons, Armand Mercadel, Jr. (Darnell), Troy Mercadel, grandchildren, J’Avanti Augillard (Robert), Dr. Aniya Mercadel, Javion Craft(Leonard), and Troy Mercadel, Jr., bonus great-grandchild-Robert R. Augillard, brothers Raymond Mercadel(Yvonne), Ronald Mercadel, Henry Mercadel, Allen Mercadel (Gail), sisters, Florence Mercadel, Gloria Boulieu, and Charmaine Brown, sisters- in-law, Maida Mercadel, Bobbie Mercadel, Brenda Mercadel, Gaynell Baudy, and Connie Boulieu, 3 God-children Pamela Mercadel, Michael Rolland, Richard Mercadel, and Herbert Baudy, III, honorary daughter Lisha Davis Hawkins, and caregiver Alvion Dickens. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, priests and parishioners of Corpus Christi Epiphany Catholic Church and St. Gabriel the Archangel Church, also employees of Rush Masonry, Lafon Nursing Home, Tulane Medical Center, the Ernest M. Morial Convention Center, Joyce Van Lines, and Ankor Energy are invited to attend a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at Corpus Christi Epiphany Catholic Church, 2022 St. Bernard Avenue on Monday, April 19, 2021 at 11:00am.
