Aniece Escher Gibbs Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Aniece Escher Gibbs was born in Woodville, Mississippi, to the late Charity Bouie Hayes and was also raised by the late Fletcher Hayes. She was baptized by the late Reverend Harrison Walls of Millbrook Baptist Church in Woodville, Mississippi. She attended public school taught by Ms. Lula Sims. Aniece was joined in matrimony to the late Robert Benjamin Gibbs, Sr. on December 25, 1936. To that union were born, four sons and one daughter. Robert and Aniece also raised James Hawkins and the late Mary Escher Washington Ford. The family were active members of Pilgrim Progress Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Reverend John Francis. Later, the family joined the neighborhood church, Nazareth Baptist, under the leadership of the late Reverend Clarence Gilbert. Aniece continued to be a faithful member of Nazareth Baptist Church, under the leadership of the current pastor, Reverend Marc A. Napoleon, serving in any ministry that needed her. She was at 101 years old, “The Mother of the Church”. Aniece was preceded in death by her mother, Charity Hayes, her husband, Reverend Robert B. Gibbs, Sr., her four sons, Louis Elmo Gibbs, Robert Benjamin Gibbs Jr., Terry Warren Gibbs and Renell Gibbs and her only brother and his wife, Elmo and Susie Escher. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory, her only daughter, Chatta Gibbs Douglas, and her two “sons”, James Hawkins (Barbara) and Irvin McClue. A host of grandchildren, Louis Gibbs Jr. (Barbara), Cornell Gibbs, Debra Gibbs Davis, Mary Gibbs, Kerren McCaskill, Jamal Gibbs (Shaney), Rachnique Gibbs Track (Carl), Chaka Douglas, Chaira Douglas Daniel, Devonzel Sterling Johnson (Andrew), and Renisha Gibbs. Great grandchildren, Ashton Gibbs (Paige), Amaya Gibbs, Carl Track, Carlyn Track, Emi Douglas, Ilan Douglas, Chas Daniel, Quen Daniel, Joe’wan Johnson and Eldrin Sterling and a host of other great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and God children. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a funeral Service at Nazareth Baptist Church, 9108 Pritchard Place, New Orleans, LA 70118 on Saturday, April 17, 2021. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am until 11:00 am, following Funeral Service (FAMILY ONLY) at 11:00am. As mandated by the State of Louisiana due to the COVID-19 pandemic, attendance is limited. Everyone is required to adhere to all restrictions. You must always wear a face mask and practice social distancing. Interment: Providence Park, 8200 Airline Highway, Metairie, Louisiana, 70003.
