Tira Fields Johnson

On November 4, 2024, Tira transitioned, and her soul reached the end of the earthly portal. She saw the light of Heaven that shined brighter than before and awaiting her were all her loved ones that cheered her on and Celebrated her arrival. Tira gained her wings at 71 years young. Tira Johnson was born on October 17, 1953, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was the fifth child to the union of both, the late Isabelle Butler and the late Edward Fields (of Chicago, IL). She was the loving wife of Walter Johnson, Sr. Tira accepted Christ at an early age. She was a member of Saint Kathrine Drexel (formerly Holy Ghost) for many years and placed her Christian faith at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church (formerly Saint Matthias) until her demise. Tira was educated in the New Orleans Public Schools Systems and was a 1972 graduate of Booker T. Washington Senior High School (GO Lions!). She had a sweet distinctive voice and laugh. You heard it when she called your name or nickname, and you knew exactly who it was. All you could say was “Hi Auntie Tira, Teedy, or Ms. Tira”. No one had that volume of a connection with you like she did and coming from such a small frame. Tira was employed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC at the Hale Boggs Federal Complex), part-time as a Presser at a Cleaners, as a volunteer parent, as a crossing guard, and assisted the Girl Scout Troop (with sales) at Thomy Lafon Elementary School. In her own time as a homemaker, she enjoyed cooking, baking and had her sweet shop in the Magnolia. On occasions, she would partake in family gatherings and enjoy every second by living in each moment. Tira held many titles; PROUD and loving Mother/Grandmother; daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, and devoted friend. God made His ultimate decision regarding Tira and she was called into her eternal interest. God had a plan for her that none of us could alter. Tira lived her life to the fullest. Tira leaves cherishing memories to her children; Walter (Engram) Johnson, Jr., Rashad (Ashely) Johnson, Sr., Quintrill Johnson, Sr., and only daughter; Shani Johnson Holmes, grandchildren; Cassidy, Shaunni, Rashad Ballard, Temaj, Semaj, Jaime, James, Jr., Emoni, Jamia, and Quintrill, Johnson, Jr., and Qwanye Jones, siblings; Gloria Broadway, Bertrand and Barbara Butler, her faithful and loving fur (dog) baby; Bronx, a host of nephews, nieces, extended relatives, many lifelong friends, and neighbors. Tira is preceded in death and reunited with her son; James “Mimmy” Johnson, Sr., grandson; Rashad “Shady” Johnson, Jr., parents; Isabelle Butler and Edward Fields, brother; William Robertson, III, grandmother; Bierdell Stewart; a son-in-law; Joseph Holmes, nephew; Terrence Alexis, Jr. an uncle and three aunts. Tira has always maintained a pleasant spirit, she will be deeply missed.
