Shirley Mae Walker Dangerfield

Shirley Mae Walker Dangerfield departed this earthly life on Wednesday, August 15, 2017. Daughter of Hazel Jackson Walker and Willie E. Walker of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Shirley was baptized at an early age at Nazarene Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, La. She became a member of Franklin Avenue Baptist Church in New Orleans, La in the year of 2000 where served faithfully. She was a member of the Franklin Avenue Baptist Church Mass Choir, Woman’s Choir and the Sunrise Choir. Shirley became a mother and wife at the tender age of 17 and by the time she was 22, she had four children whom she loved and cherished dearly. She and Peter relocated to New Orleans in 1968 where they both started their profes-sional careers and raised their children. She loved helping others, especially the disadvantaged and the elderly. She displayed this love by advocating for children as a volunteer for CASA and other organizations for those who couldn’t speak for or help themselves. Shirley was educated in the Baton Rouge Public School System and was a graduate of Capitol Senior High School. She also attended Southern University at Baton Rouge. After college, Shirley worked for Housing Authority of New Orleans for many years, touching the lives of many young people. Shirley loved life and celebrated it with family and friends whenever she could. She kept her kids involved in extracurricular activities, loved to travel with family and provided comfort with her loving and infectious smile and heart. She had such a welcoming spirit and always encouraged others with works of wisdom and a listening ear. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Hazel and Willie Walker, her brother Fermon Walker and her oldest son Charles Dangerfield. To cherish her memory, Shirley leaves three (3) children, Deidre LeJuan Dangerfield, Akello Patrice Dangerfield and Okello Patrick Dangerfield, one sister, Delores Walker Jenkins, and one brother, Ferlon Walker, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family also Pastors, Officers, and Members of Franklin Ave Baptist Church are invited to attend a funeral service at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Franklin Ave Baptist Church, 2515 Franklin Ave. Pastor Sam Young Officiating.
