Samuel "Buck" Morris, Jr., affectionately known as Buck to his family and as Sam to his coworkers at the Rex Organization, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2024, at the age of 73. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, he was the son of the late Mrs. Verna Mae Morris and Mr. Samuel Morris, Sr. Buck was educated in the New Orleans Public school system. He was a decorated Vietnam veteran, proudly serving in the United States Marine Corps and earning several commendations, including the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. After an honorable discharge, he continued to embody the values of loyalty, dedication, and friendship in his professional and personal life. For decades, Buck was a devoted and beloved employee of the Rex Organization. He was not only a dedicated worker but also a committed friend to his colleagues. His unwavering dedication contributed significantly to the legacy of Mardi Gras, and he leaves behind a lasting impact on the Rex Organization that will be felt for generations to come. A passionate football fan, Buck loved cheering for his favorite team, the New Orleans Saints. He was known for his kindness, generosity, and loyalty—a true friend to all who knew him. Buck is preceded in death by his lifelong partner, Millie P. Selvage; his parents, Verna Mae Morris and Samuel Morris, Sr.; and his siblings, Mrs. Sandra Nicholas, Vernon Sr., Lionel, and Keith Morris. He is survived by his siblings Andreyetta Harrison, Brenda Martin, Patricia Morris, Karen Morris, and Derek Morris; granddaughters Antoinette Selvage, Tangilia Selvage, Ansanta Picou, Tonia Picou, and Shanequa Stevenson; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives, and friends. Samuel "Buck" Morris, Jr. will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His warmth, friendship, and dedication have left an indelible mark on the hearts of those lucky enough to call him family, friend, and colleague.
