Ruby Turner

Blessed be the name of the Lord.” On Good Friday March 29, 2024, at 12:11 PM eastern standard time, in Atlanta, Georgia. God drew back the curtain and brought to a close the life of Ruby Lee Brown Turner. She was the fourth of seven children, born to Thomas and Lucy Lofton Brown. Ruby was a faithful and Christian worker who took her obligations seriously; loving life and lived her life to the fullest as she touched others with the spirit of love. Her parents provided the proper spiritual nurture which enabled her to accept Christ at an early age. She was baptized by the late Dr. H. J. Gilliams and was a loyal member. Later she moved to Spokane, Washington where she worked as a nurse and gave birth to her son Sherwood Devillier. After moving back to Louisiana, she made her home in New Orleans and married Wilbert Turner and to this union one daughter was born, Willette. They were members of Beulah Baptist Church under the guidance and leadership of the late Rev. Prince Fortner. After Hurricane Katrina 2005, she later united with Progressive Baptist Church under the leadership of the former Pastor Willie Gable and the present Pastor Johmyrin Johnson where she served faithfully as a deaconess. In July of 2023 she relocated to Georgia with her daughter Willette where she became a member of iThrive Christian Church under the leadership of Pastor Andre Landers until her death. Sister Ruby was delightful to her family and friends. Her smile and voice shall be missed by all. She leaves, not to mourn but cherish the beautiful memories, her daughter Willette Turner, a sister Yola (James) Barnes; goddaughters Lydia Barnes-Lewis and Jawarnaca Tyler; Sister-in-law Recita Turner. Also cherishing her loving memories are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by husband Wilbert Turner; her son Sherwood Devillier, her parents, Thomas and Lucy Lofton Brown and siblings; four sisters, Lou Hester Stewart, Bertha Mae Joubert, Willie B. Albert, and Della Gordon; one brother Thomas Brown; one nephew Gerald W. Thomas; two nieces Vanessa Gordon and Dana Renee LeDay; Her Mother and Father-in law Joseph and Victoria Turner and Brother-in-laws and Sister-in-laws.
