Roxann Jenkins Byrd

Roxann Jenkins Byrd was born April 20, 1957 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the union of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lucious and Phyllis Jenkins. She departed this earth to be with the Master on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at the age of 58. Roxann worked for many years as a salesperson and had a natural knack for selling anything from men’s suits to furniture and appliances. Roxann went above and beyond on the sales floor and was honored as “Salesperson of the Month” on more than one occasion. She loved her profession. She worked at NCL Men’s Clothing store before its closure and then went on to work for Universal Furniture. After Hurricane Katrina, Roxann joined the staff at Comeaux Furniture & Appliances until she became ill. One day while taking the bus to work at the foot of Canal St., Roxann found herself engaged in a conversation with a man about fishing. The pair enjoyed their bus ride talking about their love for fishing and she told him stories about how she would often go fishing with her parents. The two never imagined that they would spend more than thirty years together but as fate would have it, Eugene Byrd took Roxann to be his wife and he remained at her side until her death. Roxann was preceded in death by her father, Lucious Jenkins, Jr. and her mother, Phyllis Marie Jenkins. She leaves to cherish her memories her loving husband, Eugene Byrd, her four children: Chivas Jenkins LeRoy (Anthony, Sr.), Michael Jenkins, Sr. (Robyn), Michelle Jenkins (Brenda), and Miguel Smith (Shenea); a stepson, Jureem Byrd; eight grandchildren: Brandy Robinson of Fayetteville, NC, Anthony, Jr., Jasma, Antoine, Micheal “MJ”, Jr., Breyona, Michel and Miguel, Jr. Five sisters: Bonita Pittman (Michael), Gail Trufant (Eugene), Valencia Montgomery (Alvin), Dewenda Cooper (Clarence) of North Richland Hills, TX and Cynthia Bowman (Rodney) of McDonough, GA. Two brothers: Ricky Jenkins and Steven Jenkins, Sr. (Jacqueline) of Birmingham, AL and her favorite cousin, Edna Marie. She will be sadly missed by a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncle, cousins, relatives and friends. Roxann had a “heart of gold” and would gladly give the shirt off her back to all she encountered. She had a happy spirit and will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched. Relatives and friend of the family are invited to attend a Funeral Service at Rhodes Chapel, 3933 Washington Ave. on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at 10:00 am. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am.
