Rita Weaver

Rita Rose Francis Weaver was born on April 5, 1920 in Donaldsonville, La to the union of Telesphore Francis and Loretta Lacroix Francis. She was the second child of eight children born of this union. After a life well lived for 102 years, on September 14, 2022, Rita peacefully entered eternal rest surrounded by family. She was joined in wedlock to Clifton P. Weaver, Sr. On November 10, 1940 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The union produced 3 children; Patricia Weaver Thomas (deceased), Clifton P. Weaver, Jr. (Shirley) and Eldred Weaver (deceased). Rita, known as Granny to her grandchildren, was grandmother to 12, great grandmother to 24, and great-great grandmother to 5. Rita was a wife, homemaker, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She was a faithful Catholic who, when she was able, attended daily mass. When not physically able to attend, she participated with the televised mass. She had a special devotion to our Lady of Fatima and prayed the rosary several times daily. She was courageous, tough, advisor and inspiration to all. Family was always important to her. Rita lived a life in service to God’s people, taking care of the sick in her home. She helped anyone in need, never forgot a name or a birthday; loved family gatherings and blessed us with those great birthday cakes. If she knew your birthday, you got a cake. She is preceded in death by her spouse, Clifton P. Weaver, Sr., siblings Marion Thomas, Gerard (Jet) Francis, Arnold (Nolee) Francis, Veronica (Bonnie) Washington, Harold Francis, Samuel Francis and Violet (Vie) Meade; her children Patricia Thomas and Eldred Weaver. Relatives, family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 8321 Burthe Street New Orleans, LA 70118 on October 1, 2022 at 10:00 am.
