Miriam Haydel

Mrs. Miriam Marie Bocage Haydel entered into eternal rest on Monday June 12, 2023 at 3:45am at Passages Hospice. Miriam was born on March 15, 1935 in New Orleans to the late Edwin P. Bocage Sr. and Violet Mathieu Bocage. She attended All Saints Elementary, Xavier Preparatory High School and Xavier University. In 1951 she met the love of her life Byron Haydel, after 3 years, on February 5, 1954 they were married. To this union were born 4 children: Cheryl, Byron Jr., Andre, and Elton Sr. They resided in Pontchartrain Park in New Orleans. Owner, head designer of Haydel’s Flower Shoppe, as well as distinguished modiste. She was a member of the LA Floral Association, FTD, AFS, Telefloral. She was a member of the Les Uniques Club. Miriam was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Peter Bocage and Pearl Yates Scott and maternal grandparents Charles Mathieu and Georgiana Legeaux, parents Edwin Peter Bocage Sr. and Violet Mathieu Bocage, a granddaughter Fergie Haydel, Father and Mother-in-law Belmont Sr. and Elmira Haydel, Sister and Brother-in-law Eleanor Bocage Small and William Small Sr., Brother Edwin Peter Bocage Jr., Nephew Bruce Small, Niece Glynnis Small (Kevin). She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved children: Cheryl J. Haydel Johnson (Beryl), Byron Haydel Jr., Andre Haydel, Esq. (Stella), and Dr. Elton Haydel Sr. (Rachelle Tolliver); Grand-children: Noelle Jessie-Marie Johnson, Elton Jr., Taylor, Alexander, Gigi and Brie Haydel; Great granddaughters Ayla and Gia Womack; Sister-in-law Andrea McBride Bocage; Brother-in-law Dr. Belmont F. Haydel, Jr. (Nina); Devoted cousin Mr. Ronald Dupart, Esq.; nieces/nephews William Small Jr. (Linda), Alan Small (Beth), Cecille Small, Damian Bocage (Nedra), Corey Bocage; Goddaughter: Lori Doucette, as well as many cousins and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, priest and parishioners of All Saints Catholic Church and St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial, A Celebration of Life at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church at 4700 Pineda St., N.O. LA, 70126 on Wednesday, June 21, 2023. Visitation starts at 8:30am, Rosary 9:00am and Mass follows at 10:00am. Interment: St. Louis Cemetery No. 3 on Esplanade Ave. Arrangements entrusted to D.W.
