Melvin Anthony Armour Sr.

Melvin Anthony Armour, Sr was born nine of thirteen children to the late Mitchell and Annie Armour of New Orleans, Louisiana. He has been married to Rosemarie Armour for 50 years to which they have two children, Maria and Melvin, Jr. Melvin attended Orleans Public Schools and in 1967, he enlisted in the United States Army and served the Vietnam War, where he was a communications Technician for twenty years until he retired. Among his military citations and awards are the Army Commendation Medal, four Army Good Conduct Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, an NCO Professional Development Ribbon, an Army Service Ribbon, three overseas Service Ribbons, a Vietnam Campaign Medal, an Army Superior Unti Award and the Vietnam Cross and Gallantry with Palm. His civilian affiliations have consisted of membership in the Frederick T. Hicks Lodge #117 Prince Hall, Aswan Temple #115, Junior Glenn Chapter of Roy of Arch Masons and Prince Hall Military Consistory #304. His honors included the Post Worshipful Master, Post High Priest Victor S. Baxter Commander of the Knights Temple, Post Eminent Commander, Post District of Knights Temple and Past Worthy Patron of Georgia M. Ellis Chapter #78 Order of Eastern Stars. Melvin Armour Sr has been a Zulu member since 1992. Within the Zulu organization, he was a member of the Soulful Warriors and has had the honor of serving as Witch Doctor in 1996 and King Zulu in 2001. He is a past Chairman of both the Lounge and Emergency Telephone Notification Committee. He also served as Financial Recording Secretary and Anniversary Fund Raising Building and Technology Committees. Melvin is survived in life by his wife Rosemarie Armour, his two children, Maria and Melvin Armour, Jr. and his six grandkids. He’s also survived by 8 brothers and sisters and a host of nieces and nephews and lifelong friends. He was an amazing Husband, father, son, brother, and friend. He will be greatly be missed.
