Mayetta Gordon Stroughter

Mayetta Theresa Gordon Stroughter Was born on January 1, 1943, in New Orleans, LA. She was the fourth child to the union of Edward Gordon and Evelyn Atkinson Gordon. She accepted Jesus Christ as her savior at a young age, and was baptized at Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church, by Rev. Edmitt Adams. Her formative years of education began at James Weldon Johnson Elementary and Prestley Middle School in New Orleans. “May” as she was lovingly known, was the faithful, loving wife of the late Elroy Stroughter. He loved her unconditionally, he treasured her as the jewel, and diamond that she was. She was the proud mother of two children, Annettee Gordon, Kendall Gordon and the stepmom of Andrea Lee. May worked at Morrison Cleaners and Cheeda Cleaners. As life changed, she worked at Children’s Hospital and New Orleans International Airport. The job that brought her so much joy was being a “nanny” to the Heart Family. She was the proud nanny of Matthew and Alex and they have been in her life under her death, a part of the Gordon family. By the hands of Almighty God, on Thursday, the Angel of Mercy was dispatched to Ochsner Baptist hospital with instructions to inform “May” that her appointed time on earth was up! Without a warning, a hint or a clue, she humbly heeded the Master’s call as she peacefully entered the arms of her savior. She leaves to cherish her memories; her loving daughter Annette Gordon, her only love, her grandson, Antoine (Toni) Gordon, the apple of her eyes. Her pride and joy, her only great granddaughter Brooklyn Gordon. Her sweet love, her “Tee Tee” baby Laila Anderson. These two kept “May” going and brought so much joy into her life and you couldn’t say nothing about them two girls to her. One stepdaughter, Andrea Lee. Her sisters, Marlyene (Jerry) McGee, Gloria (Herman) Wise, Madeline Davis, Connie and Julia Gordon and Patricia Hayes. Two sisters in law who was known as their other sisters, Rosemary Gordon Harden and Gaynell Gordon. Her loving extended family members, Matthew and Alex heart, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. May was preceded in death by: her loving husband Elroy Stroughter, her only son Kendall Gordon, her mother and father, Edward and Evelyn A. Gordon her grandparents James and Elenor Atkinson, and Haddie Gordon, Her “brothers”, Edward and Calvin Gordon Sr. and uncle, Donald Atkinson. Her sister Brenda Gordon Anderson uncles, James, Sunny, Willie, Nathaniel, Hollies and Charles. Her aunts, Evelyn Gordon, Rebecca Cary. Her cousins, Dorothy, Erroll Manuel, Carol Latin and Gwendolyn Tanner, all from New Orleans. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend her Funeral Service at Rising Star Baptist Church, 8817 Hickory Street on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 10:00 am.
