Louis Adolph "Candy Man" Riggins

Louis Adolph “Candy Man” Riggins was born on August 20, 1946, in New Orleans, Louisiana to the union of Joseph Riggins, Sr. and Daisy Gougisha-Riggins. Louis was the second child of nine children to this union. Louis accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized October 1999 at Second Zion Baptist Church by Bishop J. Nelson Brown. He was a faithful church member and immensely enjoyed being part of the Usher’s Ministry until his health challenges prevented him from serving. Louis was a Prince Hall Mason with membership in O.J. Dunn Lodge #85 for 22 years as well as a Shriner with Platta #15. He faithfully served until his health challenges prevented him from participating. On Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 5:08 P.M., the Angel of the Lord journeyed to Veterans Memorial Hospital in New Orleans, LA and escorted our beloved Louis from Earth to Eternity. As he slowly transitioned, he was surrounded by his loving children and family. Mourning his departure, yet cherishing his memory are his six (6) loving children: Kim Wright, Davontae, Jaqera and Dajuantae Riggins, Shatierra and Karione Leagea; two (2) bonus daughters Davette (Maurice) Wellmaker and Charlene Major; eighteen (18) grandchildren and fifteen (15) great-Grandchildren. As well as his five (5) sisters: Anna Maud Williams, Carolyn (Joseph) Shelvin, Wilma (Carl) Covington, Beverly (Anthony) Lobrie and Josephine (Lloyd) Declouet; five (5) brothers: Mitchell and Anthony Riggins, Joseph (Paula), Clarence (Darlene) and Leroy (Beverly) Kelley and a host of uncles, aunts, brothers-in law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and former customers. Louis will be welcomed home by his parents Joseph Riggins Sr. and Daisy Gougisha-Riggins; his first wife Claudia Major Riggins; two (2) brothers, Joseph Riggins Jr. and Carl Riggins; two (2) sisters Edna Perry and Geraldine Kelley; a grandson, L.C. Louis Wright and his Goddaughter Daysha Yawana Shelvin-Tigler. Relatives and friends, also members of Oscar J. Dunn Masonic Lodge #85 Gretna, LA are invited to attend a Funeral Service at Second Zion Baptist Church, 6520 Second Zion Ave. Marrero, LA 70072 on Friday, October 13, 2023 at 10:00 am.
