Lillie Lewis Harris

Sister Lillie Mae Lewis Harris, affectionately known as "Mama Cat," was born on February 1, 1932, in Donaldsonville, Louisiana, to the late Albert Lewis and Malichie Williams. She was the beloved twin sister of the late Albert Lewis and the younger sister of the late Eddie Lewis. At an early age, Lillie moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, where she built a life rooted in faith, family, and service. She graduated from Joseph S. Clark Sr. High School in 1953 and pursued her passion for caregiving by attending Delgado Community College- Sidney Collier Campus where she studied nursing. In addition, she was also a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of Universal Grand Chapter. As a devoted servant of the Lord, Lillie was baptized as a youth and went on to serve as an usher and Sunday School teacher at Asia Baptist Church. Over the years, she served faithfully, earning the distinction of being the longest attending member of the church under the leadership of Reverend Madison, Reverend Bridges Sr., and Reverend Kenneth G. Thibodeaux. Her favorite Bible scripture, Philippians 4:13 – "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" – was a testament to her unshakable faith. Lillie's love and compassion extended beyond her family and church community. Her warm and nurturing spirit touched the lives of all who knew her. Whether through her work as a nurse or her dedication as a member of the church, she exemplified grace, kindness, and strength. On January 13, 2025, "Mama Cat" was called home to be with the Lord. As we lay her to rest on the day she was born, we celebrate a life well-lived and a legacy that will continue to inspire generations to come. She is survived by her husband Lionel Harris, children, Felix Antoine Lewis Sr. and Lachia Ann Lewis-Rodriguez, her 9 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, great great grandchildren, and friends. Lillie Mae Lewis Harris, our Mama Cat, will forever be remembered for her unwavering faith, her love for her family, and her remarkable spirit that brought light to everyone around her. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Funeral Service at Asia Baptist Church, 1400 Sere St., New Orleans, LA 70122 on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 10:00am. Visitation will begin at 9:00am until 10:00am. Internment: Providence Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Duplain W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Ave., New Orleans, LA 70125.
