Lawrence Richard Townzel

LAWRENCE RICHARD TOWNZEL was born October 3, 1932; in Chicago, Illinois to the union of the late Estelle and Lawrence Townzel Sr. At the age of 90, Lawrence Townzel went home to be with his Heavenly Father on November 9, 2022. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing. Lawrence was a native of Chicago, Illinois, but at the age of 82 he moved to Harvey, LA in 2015. He loved living in Louisiana because of the warm weather and the delicious food. Moving to Louisiana allowed him to spend more time with his son Duane and his family. Duane and his dad loved to try new restaurants, go fishing and work on projects together. Lawrence also was able to spend time with his youngest granddaughter Dawn while she lived with him as a Xavier University student. Lawrence was very proud of “his baby” for all her hard work and her graduation from college. Lawrence as educated in the Illinois Public School System graduating from Chicago Vocational High School. After graduation, he joined the military serving in the Army from 1950-1953. Lawrence was honorably discharged and was a veteran of the Korean War. Lawrence began his career working 13 years for the University of Illinois as a Courier. He also worked for many years for Xerox and Sears Companies. Lawrence was a jack of all trades and was very good with his hands. He built computers, radio control air crafts etc. His hobbies included fishing, building and flying model airplanes, flying his drone, and ham radio operation. Lawrence leaves behind a sister Rheta Posey, 3 children Duane (Michelle) Townzel, Tanya Williams and Lauren Johnson, 9 grandchildren Duane Townzel Jr. and Gina Townzel; Dominick (Sky), Ryan, and Austin Williams; William Johnson Jr, Kora, Latrice and Dawn Johnson. And 3 Great grandchildren Trenity Green, Dominique and Devin Williams. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and supportive friends such as Perry Milsap Sr. He was preceded in death by his loving parents Estelle and Lawrence Townzel Sr., 2 sistes Allegra and Yvonne Townzel and his brother-in-law Richard Posey Sr. Relatives, family and friends are invited to attend a funeral at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, 1923 St. Phillip Street New Orleans, Louisiana 70116 on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 10:00 am.
